Lets hear it for Lakewood Country Club! This is an American Golf owned golf course that seems to be doing a lot of things right. They have a hands on General Manager and excellent catering managers. They let me in on their little secret when I briefly spoke with them. They really started caring about the experience their clients had at the venue and went over and above to make them happy. Their clients in turn went back to their community and told their friends and family and they started booking this venue for their weddings and events. It sounds obvious, like this is what EVERY wedding venue should be doing. But, to execute on this isnt always easy. Lakewood Country Club (bide by lake) The Clubhouse is historic, it reminds me a bit of La Venta Inn up in Rancho Palos Verdes. Though Lakewood has been nicknamed the "Instant City" because it grew quickly in the 1950s and 1960s this clubhouse appears to pre-date that expansion. It is historic and has been recently been remodeled. It has lovely wood floors I do like the building, its not a mass produced golf course club house of the 1960s era, and its not one of the modern palaces weve seen a lot of in the past few years. Its elegant and timeless. The ballroom seats 350, but for a wedding reception I think 250 would be a very comfortable number. Since were not seeing a lot of wedding receptions with over 200 guests the room is perfect for the more common 140 to 200 guest wedding reception, but it has space if youre mother goes crazy inviting more guests. They can also do outdoor wedding ceremonies on the site.

Lakewood Country Club, it has been one of the best courses in the south bay area. I been playing there for years, what i did not know is if you make a tee time for 4 or players, and one of them does not show up, you will get charge on your credit card, cause they have it on file, you can disputed with the bank if you like, but that will take couple weeks to get your money back, any ways, i dont think that is good customer services, they could add players from the waiting list to yours. I dont see any problem with that, since this is a city course, not a private one. one more comment the starters or not that helpful, they think they to good for the job, I guess, what they dont not know is there lots brothers out there looking for a job. Im going to contact the manager to do a formal complain.

Natalie and Brooke are awesome! I cannot be grateful enough for these two wonderful ladies! They have captured the concept that I wanted for my wedding. I know I was being too bothersome for asking too many questions but they were very nice and patient with me. My requests were pleasantly granted and those that they cannot were politely declined. What I am most grateful about was they were very helpful and suggestive about my ideas. And at the day of my wedding, I was so pleased with how my room and tables turned out! It was a magical day for me and it would not be possible without these ladies. I really appreciate all the hard work that these ladies and their team have done for me. Highly recommended!

I play many different courses in the LA/OC area. Lakewood allows walk-ons to gain tee times ahead of reservations, which resulted in my scheduled tee time being 45 minutes late. They also added a fifth to my foursome, WITHOUT ASKING ME IF IT WAS OKAY. I recommend that everyone avoid Lakewood if at all possible until they wake up and treat their customers with respect. The course is fun and challenging, but it gets all messed up with the policies which result in delays. Too bad.

The course conditions are decent. Fairways are OK greens, save for number 3, were in good shape. However, 6 1/2 hour round on MONDAY. This is the second consecutive outing with a 6 1/2 hour round. If you are going to allow fivesomes, it should be mandatory that they use a cart and ready golf should be enforced. It took 10+ minutes on the green for the 5 guys to putt out. I feel like I wasted my money and struggled to find any rhythm in my game. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.

A Private User

If you get the chance play this wonderful, challenging, inexpensive course. The par 3s are killers. The Second and Sixth hole very challenging. The course is a steal for what they charge. Gary K and his well trained, polite staff making golfing at Lakewood a pleasure. I play all over Southern Cal and think this is the best deal anywhere.

I play here 6 to 8 times a year and always find the course to be in good shape. There should be some restrictions on 5s. Like mandatory carts. Also, this is the only course Ive ever played that added a fifth player to our foursome. Overall, a decent municipal course with super rates for seniors.

Totally overpriced golf course! Charging $50 per round and sending out fivesomes is ridiculous. Playing time exceeds 6 hours and can easily go into 7 hours. Really a pity the course management has decided to move away from foursomes, since the course has a great layout and is in a good shape.

Teed off on time for a Sunday morning and played under 5 hours. Staff was helpful and the course was in good condition. Less fivesomes would help lower round times and keep the course moving.

Def a good course. Lots of times its slow play due to crowds. Course is dry now and greens are fast!! Love the course and play it quite often. I suggest afternoon tee times-all year long.

not a huge fan of this place. The pace of play is very slow and the course is not maintained very well. Skylinks and Big Rec are far better golf options in nearby Long Beach.

The food is amazing. The staff is nice and friendly. They treat you kindly and respectful. The course is in GREAT condition. This is my favorite Golf Course without a doubt.
