The capitol building is absolutely beautiful! I took my five-year-old son and he also enjoyed it. We walked around a bit on our own, but also went on the short (30 mins) guided tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and it seems like she truly loves her job and the building. My son was a big fan of the Welcome Center downstairs in the East Wing. If you go on a weekday, I believe youre able to walk through more of the building on your own - they have more portions closed off on the weekends. I look forward to going back. It truly is a sight to see.

My family lived on 3rd Street across from the steps when I was born, and my mother later worked as a secretary for several state senators on the 4th floor of the capitol, so I spent a lot of time there into my teens. I visited with my late wife about 25 years ago. She grew up in Europe and spent a lot of time there as an adult tourist, and said that the capitol building was the most beautiful functioning (i.e., not a museum or church) building that she had ever seen. I agree.

This Capitol is grandiose and shows the splendor of the Commonwealth when it was the worlds sixth largest economy. A few of the features: terracotta roof, 52 million ton dome, stained glass windows by a student of Tiffanys, grand marble staircase, and priceless artwork everywhere. A must see for the lover of history, art, architecture, or Pennsylvania.

Yes its the State capitol and yes its a building but this is a gem if youre a history and architecture buff. The 100+ year old building has hundreds of tiles created by Mercer in Bucks County. Have been on this free tour several times with friends. The art is amazing and makes you think that a building like this couldnt be made today.

When compared to India, I found a lot of Love in the making & up keep of Government Buildings, sewer covers were alike, lamp posts were artistic, common areas were without loose garbage. In all people have good civic sense. In India, except Rastrapati Bhawan, Delhi, everything is a mess.

One of the best capitol buildings in the country (our 22 capitol building) we have seen. On the same level as the capitol in Washington DC. The fountain out back was super nice and our kids watched it till we pried them away.

Visited as a chaperone on a 4th grade class trip. The staff was very patient and answered every question as best they could. They were so patient with the children and of course the facility is amazing.

I have been to more than half of the state capitols and the Pennsylvania Capitol is one of the top 3 most beautiful I have seen! The murals are so ornate and the green square in the back is beautiful.

Terrible Parking - $3 per hour - No Public Free Parking - So downtown commerce suffers and the public does not feel welcome at their own capitol - Expected better from Pennsylvania.

Some of the best architecture around. Every inch of the building is stunning. When not on a tour, they let people walk around the building for free, after a security check point.

The distinctive, beautiful heart of the city. This landmark anchors the community in the way that all great landmarks do, not just economically, but socially and psychologically.

Open to the public! Gorgeous building where our government works (or does not work depending on your position). Parking around it can be rough. Tours are available as well.
