Boyd Big Tree Preserve was pretty awesome place in fishing creek valley to just chill and relax.. its 949 acres and was donated by Alex Boyd in 1999, when he was head of the Union deposit Corporation, the real estate company that owns all the office complexes on union deposit road and east park drive. it is the newest pennsylvania state park and is the only one designated as a "Conservation Area" lots of mature trees and so forth. it has a few miles of hiking trails. great for walking dogs too, they can just roam all over the property. Lots of wildflowers, animals and stuff like that.

Nice park and well marked trails. Close to Harrisburg which is nice for locals to be able to have a nice place to hike and still have plenty of time for other activities in your schedule. Only complaint involves trails that cut across the power lines. Beware of the high grass and weeds that you will be walking through if the the power company hasnt cut it in a while. Take proper precautions for Lyme, poison or other issues that you may expect in nature.

As someone who enjoys being on the trail a good bit, this one was fairly nice and a little different. I dont think this is anywhere Id make a day trip to like Ricketts Glen or any of the nicer parks up north but if youre in the area theres plenty to keep you busy for a few hours. Its quiet but close enough to the highway that its easy to find.

Lovely place right outside of Harrisburg. Easy trails and some slightly more difficult trails that you can go and hike for an hour or two when you dont have all day. Please know that lots of people walk their dogs there so I wouldnt go if you are afraid of dogs

Trails were well marked and maintained. The maps at the information board were helpful in planning out our own rough. The entire area was dog friendly, and overall a great time spent. Nice view of the area. I will definitely come again

Nice trails of various difficulty levels. Pay attention to topography on map as some of the easy trails require access via more difficult trails. Also, the easy trails are flat but rocky and muddy in spots. Bring some sturdy shoes.

Nice place for a quick hike. Not overly scenic, but there is a pond. The longest trail is about 3 miles, but we looped around multiple trails, so we totaled about 6 miles. Make sure you grab a map, as many of the trails overlap!

Great walking trails, dog and stroller friendly, no real significant elevation gain, no spectacular views really but it is still a great little nature preserve, and some of the trees are indeed really big.

So beautiful! My dog and I had so much fun. I will definitely go back during fall when the leaves are changing and there isnt as many bugs! Its a completely shaded hike so there were tons of bugs.

Absolutely my favorite place to hike. Its beautiful and serene. Sometimes there are problems finding spots to relax or explore without running into other people, but busy seasons happen.

There is a good range of hiking trails for people of different abilities. This is a special Conservation Area so no mountain bikes are allowed. But our dogs certainly love it!

Great hiking and running trails - trails range from easy to difficult. The trails are marked although some of the colors are similar

Boyds is a bit off the main road via a dirt road. Trails are marked and run from easy to medium. Nice view from top of hill.

Wide gravel trails leading to the ridgeline. Easy walking and bicycling. Trying to restore the American Chestnut to the area.

Easy trails with one having a step incline for a short distance. Very nice nature getaway for the Harrisburg area.
