Are you a chewing gum aficionado? Do you see a massive a display of chewed gum on a wall and think to yourself "Thats awesome!"? Do you feel a tingling in your loins thinking of all the saliva it took to make a scene of several hundred square feet of gum put on public display? Well, if you said yes to any of those questions, youll love the Gum Wall at the Pike Market (please seek help if you lingered on the final question however)! Its a dark alley layered in used gum on both sides. With all that said - this three-star rating actually translates into a one-star review from me since I thought it was gross, but Ive long accepted that I dont have the level of hipness it takes to fully appreciate gum on a wall (call the bump in rating a hipness translation). Question though: is the alley lit at night? With so many bars and restaurants there, how often have the inebriated or stoned found themselves mildly annoyed at best by getting gum on their clothes, or frighteningly stuck at worse when they bump into one of the walls as they meld to the wall by used mucilage because they werent watching where they were going?

Portland tries to be weird. Seattle, at times, just is weird. The gum wall is a local icon that cant be described as anything but weird. Theres probably some story about a piece of gum that started it, but now its a wall in an alley below Pike Place Market thats just gum. Chewed, disgusting, smelly gum. Dont believe its that smelly? Head there on a Summers afternoon and youll smell it before you see it. Ive seen people scale the drain pipe to get their gum in a clear bit, with their hands grappling other peoples saliva-coated cast offs. Gagged yet? Stop by, you cant really say youve been to Seattle without a visit there. Wear gloves and remember the sanitizer. Lots of sanitizer.

Its gum. On a wall. Folks... Used to be this secret thing, people put their gum there. It grew and grew. It attained legendary status and every tourist out of their mind now wants to hit it up thinking all this gum has been here so long and how amazing it is. Heres the thing. They clean it off now, yearly. Started maybe 2 years ago. The gum was too much, damaging the walls, or so they say. So they cleaned it all off. People return and put up more, but its a yearly activity. Theres nothing impressive about this any longer. Please do not waste your time. No historical value has been retained except the allure of a once hidden gem.

First of all take a look at the photos of this place to really imagine what is this all about. Now, this is about gum in the wall. Chewed gum. Not only in a small piece of wall but in several metres wide and tall, and at both sides of the street including the a local entrance where the only thing visible is the door and the ticketing window. As a tourist I think this is something between too gross and a weird tourist attraction, I felt somewhere in between "this is cool" and "this is bad", but definitely something you wont see very often. If I were a Seattle citizen, I dont know Id think... But I wouldnt like to live near this wall.

As far as places of note, this one is just ok. Its a wall of used gum. Its exactly how one would imagine it to be. Its definitely a place that youll never forget and the smells; oh my. Market officials deemed it an official tourist attraction in 1999. A scene in the movie, Love Happens (2009), was filmed at this gum wall. Anyway, we walked by, stopped for a photo and that was that. Ive seen the wall commemorated in photos so its definitely a tourist spot, if you will. Its a place I can say that Ive been but probably never will go by again, unless I have some used gum to contribute.

As tourist attractions go, this is one of the quirkiest (and one of several such walls around the world). So: get ready to make lots of gross-out selfies by pretending to nibble at someone elses pre-chewed deposit at Seattles own Gum Wall. While not exactly a destination like the Space Needle or Pikes Market, the Gum Wall is right there in the middle of things, so a small detour to marvel at the gunk (or add to it yourself) is warranted. Note: on crowded days, squeezing past folks in the alley can have unexpected consequences if you stray too close to the Gum Wall in the process.

A nice little surprise found in a hidden nook underneath Pike Place Market. It is both entirely gross and awesome at the same time. Definitely a huge tourist attraction and instagram worthy. The gum wall does come out better in pictures than in person so youll look cool regardless. I was super excited to finally see it and to leave my mark behind in Seattle. Be sure to bring your own gum! Though I heard the coffee shop right next to it sells packs of gum in case you didnt bring your own.

Interesting site to visit. Chewed gum all over the brick wall. The theater near by tells the story, years ago there was a show, and the line was really long. People, while they were waiting , started to stick thier used chewing gum on the wall, and it became a thing. The city had multiple attempts to clean the wall (one time took 130 hours of steaming and cleaning) but people keep sticking thier chewing gum there to the point that the city gave up and it became a tourist site to visit.

Before I went to see this alley, I had this idea that it would be a yucky place to see. I mean, I could not imagine sticking gum straight from my mouth to the wall. But yes, thats what they did there and the wall turned into a colorful place. You might want to stick your own gum on the wall too. If you want to be more creative, make a smiley out of your gum on the wall. :P But jokes apart, this is really a nice place to visit, if someone is near Pike Place.

My uncle and I stopped here when I came over for my cousins (his grandsons) first birthday party in early April. We went to Pike Place Market for breakfast and took a tour. After that, we decided to stop here and I got one of the things to check off on my bucket list. It may look gross, but I was interested in looking at all of the gum. I will be sure to chew a piece of gum and stick it on the wall next time I come here.

パイクプレイスマーケットの前の坂から下に降りたところにあります。大量のガムで見た目はカラフルで綺麗な場所です。 観光客の人たちも自分の噛んでいるガムを貼り付けているので、常にガムの甘い匂いが充満しています。

I couldnt believe a place like this existed. It gives you a gross yet such wonderful feels passing by. Its a true Pikes tradition to add your gum and pass it on for others to view. They had to scrape it all down a while back because it had built up so much. Despite that, every one kept doing it and you wouldnt even notice it was all removed before. Great way to gross out your friends with pretend licking selfies.

its funny how this place is an attraction and everyone who visit Seattle stops here. But then again, why not. Its located at the Pike Market. A place EVERYONE eat and hang out when in town. It is cool seeing all the different colors of sticky gum on the wall but thinking about it grosses me out. Would I go out of my way to check it out? No. But its one of those places where you see it once and never again.
