Very disappointed! I purchased six tickets for Jonah (cost $300+) for my familys visit to Lancaster and was extremely upset. We had center orchestra seats 1 off the aisle. The person that sat on the aisle had a child on his lap - not an infant or a toddler but a child about 10 or 12 years old. It was very uncomfortable for my son sitting next to the aisle seat. The ushers should not permit this ... allowing 2 people in one chair is not fair for the person seated next to them. The family behind us had a child who talked loudly throughout the entire show. The parents really should have put a stop to it but the ushers needed to step in when the parents didnt react and the ushers did nothing. There was a baby that cried for over an hour in our section. Again, there is a family room that a parent can bring a crying baby to but if the parent just allows the baby to cry and disturb the rest of the audience then the usher should have asked them to step outside. I personally had a child kicking the back of my chair for over an hour. This is not the kind of theater that you can leave your seat and ask for assistance (during the performance actors are in the aisles) so you really need to rely on the ushers to take some action but that was not the case on August 23 when I attended the show. It was a real shame because the actors were very good, the scenery and props were sensational and the theater itself is beautiful but with all the disturbances going on around us it was difficult to concentrate on the performance. I spent a good amount of money for my family to see this show and was looking forward to it. I left the theater very frustrated by the experience. I would not recommend going to see this show.

The stories are bold and larger than life. The animals that come on and off stage sometimes do unexpected things, so no performance is exactly predictable. They take plenty of artistic freedom, and occasionally dont do what you expect them to, with a character. They cater to an audience that knows their Bible, so while they do let the story unfold in a dramatic way for the benefit of those who havent read the book, they also tuck away plenty of easter eggs for people well versed in scriptures too. They always bring out an applicable truth fir the audience to consider, which may or may not be your thing. The stages are panoramic and immersive so theres plenty of action in the side stages and aisles. It might be best to get a seat away from the extreme right or left. (unless seeing your performers faces up close is of special interest to you, in which case, those seats are the best. I personally prefer to be able to turn to see the action without straining my neck) The line for the ladies restroom is pretty long, so factor that in. The store sells some nice memorabilia, and if youre from a different country, its a great idea to get the DVD for people back home. Its a great idea to come early and visit Amish country before hand, then watch the show, and grab a bite before heading home. If you want to make a day of it, you can do a buggy ride in the evening and spend the night at an inn before heading home early the next day.

This is an expensive show, but you should take the family (or just adult friends) to see at least one production. You will probably go back to see another. Created and owned by a Jewish family, they have several of these huge production theaters around the country and each presents only familiar Christian bible stories in an astounding spectacle with live actors and animals performing on three stages at once. Wow! They do more than one production a year, and each is a sound and light spectacular. Depending on the story, there could be live camels, lions, horses, asses and lots of actors, all moving at once across the three stage panorama. Huge and amazing fun. The attract a large audience bussed in, so allow time to park and go through the airline terminal type ticket process. Afterwards, enjoy a dutch treat meal in the surrounding Lancaster area.

In this fast-paced and hurried world, the Lancaster Sight and Sound Theatre is a breath of fresh air. The parking is sufficient, the staff is very gracious and amenable to families with children with allergies and/or disabilities, the shows are phenomenal and well thought-out, and the animals are well trained! The special effects and scene changes actually make the show! If, for any reason, you cannot see the entire show, there are dvds (some with subtitles) so you can see the production in the comfort of your home! Our personal favorites were Moses, Jonah, and Noah...We make yearly trips to the Sight & Sound Theatre and stock up on supplies to make the winter bearable from their honey almonds, paraphenalia (t-shirts), and videos (dvds).... It is comforting to know that We are not alone.... Remain blessed..

Pros: the theatrical effects were amazing (example: the boat in Jonah), the singing was good (for the most part), and the acting mediocre. The animals in the show were neat, but occasionally overdone. Cons: While they make mention to taking artistic liberties from the Biblical text before the show...they stray a bit too far some of the time (Im probably overly sensitive to this being a seminary trained Pastor.). For example, when Jonah is "spit out" onto the shore he seems to end up on some sort of tropical island in a Polynesian setting (it was an obvious ploy to use their parrot). Really weird set and costume choice here. Jonah makes a donkey "sit" at one point to throw in a "cute animal trick." I am also not a fan of having "Jesus" show up in a Jewish Old Testament story....it was not necessary.

What an experience! Ive had the pleasure to be part of the audience through multiple Sight & Sound performances (Noah, Moses, Joseph, Samson, Jonah, The Christmas Show). Its evident the cast invests countless hours of practice in their performances, including choreography, costume design and props. Every reproduction is Biblically accurate. Any artistic interpretation does not detract from the story line. The addition of animals bring the narrative to life. Ive been a patron of these productions over the past 15 years. I look at the cost of admission as an investment in grounded entertainment. Thank you Sight & Sound management for bringing this mission field to Lancaster County.

Moses was the fourth show I have attended at Sight and Sound. It was as good as any Broadway production. The parting of the Red Sea as well as the striking of the Ten Commandments was masterfully done. I always love the use of the animals and the way they exit through the audience. I realize that there is some embellishments and interpretations that are placed into the script, and this is mentioned before the show begins. I always find it uplifting that Jesus finds his way onto the stage no matter what story is being told. As a follower of the Old Testament, I appreciate an organization that lets people know that there is much to be learned from the Good Book! Keep up the good work.
