My family and I had dinner at your restaurant on Oct. 24, 2013. We chose you with particular care because our grand-son, who was with us, is the Sommelier at Carbon in NYC and food and wine are important to him. In fact, his General Manager at Carbon assured him that we had made a good choice in choosing The Red Newt as our dining destination. How wrong we were! The female Sommelier who waited on our table was uninformed about the wines that she suggested to the point that your 2011 Riesling was insipid and undrinkable. We then ordered the 2007 Riesling. Our waitress ignored the nicety of removing the used glasses from our table, and to add insult to injury, both the "starters" and the ""mains" were a big disappointment. My grandson wanted to approach the chef and tell him that the disrespect that he showed for the hens in his preparation of them was a disgrace. They were over-cooked to the point of dryness, the pumpkin soup was lacking in any distinction and the ravioli was cold, tasteless, and limp. My dessert of "cobbler" was an insult. To charge $10.00 for a teeny cup of fruit and crumb topping was absurd . Finally, the trio that was playing that evening was too loud and intrusive to be able for us to have normal conversation. We shall not return.

wife and i loved our recent visit. such FUN with the great women pouring and discussing our wines. we even bought several bottles, something we rarely do at tastings. the atmosphere is very spacious and open and friendly and enhanced our time. i got hungry while tasting and saw on their menu board a cheese and charcuterie plate. I cant resist them. But I was more than surprised at how delicious and creative the plate was! Id get it every time if I could. excellent and ample slices of toasted baguette, two meats, and the local salami was just superb. two cheeses, one very local--a bleu cheese--and out of this world. an apple and ?? chutney was a treat. oh,, then three small pickled items--olives, cabbage (or was it shallots?), and a fun twist on pickled shaved carrot. Delicious, for a very fair price and with great staff and atmosphere. Love it.

I went on "Southern Night" which I think is done by Simply Red on Monday nights. The food was fantastic and the live bluegrass was tasteful and acoustic, providing background music (depending where you sit -- a couple tables were right next to the three-piece band). The wine menu is from all over the Finger Lakes region and you can order by flight or create your own flight, or by the glass/bottle of course. I had the ribs with okra and collard greens and sweet potatoes as an app. The chocolate pate for dessert was rich. Two of us could only finish half of it after a full meal. And I tried two different wine flights so I got 6 small glasses of wine to pair with the food. Great views of vineyard and Seneca Lake sunset. Oil and acrylic paintings of local scenery on the walls were the perfect decor.

The menu at the Red Newt Bistro isnt very extensive, but the food is high quality. They use local ingredients from nearby farms and businesses which I found to be nice. I had the autumns harvest pasture raised burger which included smoked cheddar, grilled canadian bacon, greens, and mayo. I found the burger to be excellent. They have indoor and outdoor seating and although the service was a little on the slow side our waitress was very friendly. They also offer a tasting where they pair different wines with different food, but we did not try this. We also did a wine tasting after lunch but did not find any of the wines to be great. If you are in the area I would recommend at least having lunch or dinner at the bistro.

We stopped here for a quick lunch and a tasting. The food was really good. My husband and I both got the BLT grilled cheese and soup. The food was fresh and delicious. The bread is made on site and was fantastic. The soups were a spicy creamy tomato and a potato soup. Both had a smooth and silky texture and great flavor. The tasting was good. There was a large variety of wine to try and the lady conducting the tasting had a great knowledge of all the products. This place was great and I would definitely return in the future

What an utter disappointment. We showed up at around 5pm and despite the restaurant being half empty and 2 open seats at the bar, they refused to seat my new fiance and I. When we asked about the spots at the bar, they said they were "overwhelmed" and literally asked us to leave. There was no real explanation, no empathy and the short, blond host was just plain rude. I heard from the locals that after one of the owners passed away, this place has never been the same. Too bad.

I found this place through a spur-of-the-momet Google search. Just from the name, I immediately knew this was the place to go. The beautiful sunset over the the hills, the chef-recommended 5-course meal, and the suggested wine pairings were perfect and made ordering our meal unusually simple. Finally, our waitress Megz, was very knowledgeable and helpfull and has to be one of the friendliest people on the planet!

Enjoyed capping off our tour of the Finger Lakes wine region with a stop at Red Newt Cellars. We were very impressed with the wines presented at the stand up tasting as well as the Bistro. The staff which supported both areas were very knowledgeable, helpful and answered all of our questions! My wife just raved about the Bistro, its presentation and tastes! We will return to Red Newt Cellars!

Very friendly and tasty bistro food. I tried the meatloaf grilled cheese which really was good start to finish. The wine tasting was a great value at 7 for $5 and turned me on to buying two nice bottles I otherwise would not have so easily found on label alone. Nice folks we will be back.

We had dinner on Sat the 12th. and after paying 165.00 for 3 appetizers and 3 dinners. The ravioli appetizers were delicious but the dinners were ordinary and portions were small. We went away hungry and broke. The waitress was slow and never brought my second drink. Wont return again.

Great award-winning wines, hearty lunchtime plates (and bowls), panoramic views of vineyards and lake, and the Sunday afternoon chamber music and jazz performances are a rare treat. Weve been following this place since its birth, and it just keeps getting better and better!

Ingredients mostly locally sourced and prepared right. Their own wines are very good, their finger lakes selections are the tops. Ive eaten there twice: different seasons, different menus. The views of the vinyards and Seneca Lake are beautiful. Everyone is friendly

Best dining experience in the Watkins Glen area. Both the food and atmosphere were incredible. I ordered the stuffed pork chop and my friend had a fish dish and both were delicious. A bit pricey but it is worth it. I will go back again on my next trip to WG.

Lovely winery and nice spot to enjoy a light meal. Beautiful views. The bistro is self-service. You order at the front, in the tasting area. Service overall was slightly haphazard but still warrants a visit for the wines and light bites.
