... and Im being generous with that statement. If I could give it no stars, I would. Ive always wanted to come here, but never really found the time nor incentive to. Luckily for me, Restaurant Week rolled around and gave me an opportunity to try them out. When walked in through the door, we were not greeted immediately. We stood at the podium for a good 3 or 4 minutes before the manager even said "hello" to us, only to leave us shortly after to attend to customers. All the while, there is an idle waitress sitting at the sushi bar. When we finally got seated (by the manager), the idle waitress came over to ask us our drinks. We both said water with lemon. The water tasted as though it had never been filtered, and the lemon did not alleviate the horrendous taste at all. We browsed the normal menu, and then focused on the prix fixe lunch menu because thats what we were there for. Their regular menu items are very, very pricey. If I recall, it was about $8 for a small shrimp appetizer. I dont think even authentic Japanese restaurants back at home in Queens dare charge that much for such low quality and quantity of food. We ended up getting the same thing: a shrimp tempura with cream cheese roll but substituting the included cream cheese for avocado. Why not just order a regular shrimp tempura roll, you ask? Because it didnt exist on the menu. I find it so difficult to believe that a restaurant that will call itself Japanese and provide such a limited selection of rolls while excluding the basics. The prix fixe rate entitles you to an appetizer "sampler" and either a mini version of ~3 of their entrees or one of ~8 sushi roll options. Our appetizers did not come out until 15 mins after we gave our order. It included one spring roll, one small bowl of miso "soup", and your typical ginger soy sauce salad. I say "soup" in quotations because Id hardly call it that; it was more like miso WATER; bland, flavorless, had one small cube of tofu, and that was it. I couldnt even finish my soup because it was just so unbearably horrendous. The spring roll was decent, but I wouldnt be surprised if they bought those from Sams Club. The house salad I actually liked, but thats because they skimped on the ginger and overdosed on the soy sauce and Im really not fond of the ginger dressing at other Japanese restaurants. It took our waitress another 10-15 mins to come and take our plates away. Come another 10-15 mins, our rolls FINALLY came out. We were starving at this point, what with our initial empty stomachs and the tiny portions they give, only to find our sushi rolls were incorrect. They included the cream cheese AND avocado, even though we made it very clear we did NOT want cream cheese. Our waitress turns around to the sushi chef and tells him the order was wrong, right in front of us, and he gives an attitude. We were then told our rolls were top priority and would be out ASAP. Our corrected rolls didnt come out until 10 mins later. They were correct this time, but we were really no longer happy with anything here. It didnt even matter that my roll was disproportional, with each of my pieces being unevenly made. We scarfed down our food because all we wanted was to get the hell out of there! The waitress took forever to notice us, and another 7 mins or so to get us our requested SEPARATE checks. She brought one. Instead of asking her to undo it, we couldnt wait any longer so we just went by the single check. Turns out she charged us for an "extra add-in" for substituting the avocado with the cream cheese, because she got it wrong in the first place. But no matter, we were sick of waiting and tired of the poor service, so we paid the check without hesitation and left. I would never, ever come back here. I would much rather take my business to Fuji-San, where the food and service would actually be worth the amount of money youd end up spending at Sake-tumi. Overall, SERVICE: 0/5 WAIT TIME: 0/5 (wait time gets its own category because it was THAT bad) FOOD: 1/5 DECOR: 3/5 AMBIANCE: 3/5

Terrible. Went during restaurant week. We (party of 4) made reservations (they were busy but not packed), arrived, ordered (an appetizer, roll, and desert each) within 15 minutes and then waited 1:45 for our dinners! We were literately walking upstairs to settle our bill and leave when our food was coming out. I understand there were orders in front of us, but an hour and forty five minutes for four sushi rolls is completely unacceptable. I was literately so hungry and i ate my food so fast that i have no recollection of the taste quality but it was nothing special. Save your money and go to wegmans regardless of how desperate your sushi craving is. The only redeeming thing of the night was the fact that they comped us $25 worth of drinks. Will never go back.

I keep going back hoping the service will get better. The food is great! Ive had a few rolls that were not that great but most are really good especially the super crunchy and the newer Laguan Beach roll. The desserts are great and huge but I agree the wine list sucks. Its really not that hard to put together a good wine list. Ill probably go back again but I think they need to clue in that if youre going to keep the staff small you need quick, informative, and pleasant service. My waiter did not even know what was in the specialty rolls. Once Sake Tumi hires some better servers I think they will finally have an A+ restaurant all around.

We went with a large group of maybe 20 people and experienced the worst service of my life. We waited an hour and a half after we ordered for appetizers and then an hour after for our meal. Then they forgot to give some people dessert. They also added things we didnt order to our check when it finally came. We were there for a total of 3 hours watching people who came in much later than us get served first. The food was mediocre, the sushi wasnt bad but some people who got the curry were greatly disappointed. Overall worst restaurant experience Ive had in a LONG time. Will never go again.

The only thing this place has going for itself is the delicious fusion sushi rolls. If there were another place around that had the types of rolls this place does, Id go there though -- because sake-tumis service is horrible. Seriously. Every time Ive ever been there, I spend hours there (not by choice). The bulk of the time wasted is just waiting to have my order be taken after being seated, and then waiting for them to give me my bill. Calling in for take out? Give them 15 minutes longer than they said. Dont show up on time, and definitely dont show up early. It wont be ready.

Good food, and great service, only complaint is the wait it takes to recieve the food. Have been numerous times on $1 sushi night, and with the extended wait I cant really complain since it is $1. Recently I went for lunch, myself & boyfriend were the only ones in the restaurant. Ordered 2 rolls and it took 45 minutes to come out. Had to eat quickly since it was during the work week. Think they would be much more marketable for the business lunch crowd if they would get the food out at a more reasonable rate.
