Parvin State Peak is, indeed, a beautiful park for hikers/walkers and nature lovers alike. However, my review is about cabin reservations. Those in charge of reservations at Parvin State Park ought to be fired, or at least ashamed of themselves, although I sadly feel assured that neither will happen. Some mutual friends had reserved two cabins for a weekend in May and October this year. (They have been renting cabins at Parvin for a few years now.) They made their reservations last year for this year, early enough to assure getting one, as the cabins go fast. There were no problems at the time of making the reservation and the proper amounts were withdrawn from their bank accounts for both cabins and both weekends. We went there in May, no problems. When we went there in October (yesterday, as of this writing), it turned out that both cabins had been rented to other parties. Two cabins rented, paid in full, and expected to be waiting for us had been rented to other parties. All of the planning everyone had to do prior to this weekend, including taking off from work (with monies that could have been made not being made), and the money spent for food was just shot in the you-know-where. Most of us traveled 30 miles or more to get there. To begin with, bumping people out of reservations should not happen. Yes, it has happened -- according to a park police officer, this has happened before -- but it should not. You paid for it, you should get it. Period. My friends received absolutely no notice from Parvin in any way, shape, or form about their actions. Their monies were taken, and they have to get a lawyer now the get reimbursed, but the cabins were not delivered. If this is what people looking to reserve cabins -- people who have reserved there before -- have to deal with, then no one should reserve cabins there. Perhaps the same is true for the campsites as well, I dont know for certain, but a reservation is a reservation. Very unethical in its business practices, Parvin State Park is to be avoided for camping.

It sucked.we rented a cabin mind u we had to pay $600 for a week.my kids could not play out side cause of the massive amounts of bees that have made nest in the rafters of the porch and dug out holes in the side of the cabin and made nest.the cabin in side was full of ants every where the mold in the bathroom around the shower and floor was terrible.1/2 the lights dont work.the beds are hard as hell hurt all are backs.all the windows had no curtains or shades so anyone can just look in at anytime day or night.kids woke up in the middle of the night a few times getting bit buy ants.the fridge is all rusted up.and when i said something on day one they got nasty with me.i hate this place tottaly destroyed are vacation and i have 5 year old twin boys a 9 year old daughter and teenage daughter and it destroyed. Are vacation.i strongly do not recommend this place.ill be calling a lawyer when i get home.

Although the most recent time I was out to Parvin it was quite crowded with people from all over the country, since I live close by I know that to not be the norm. Our family has spent many a day relaxing and even some nights camping at Parvin over the past 30 years and have a lot of fond memories of things such as when my wife slipped off a log she was using to cross a stream over a crick out there but still managing to keep her camera out of the water when she went in. Parvin was also always a good spot after dinner to take the canoe and just paddle around the lake as we would watch all sorts of wildlife doing their thing whether it was the frogs croaking, the ducks or geese flying, the fish flopping as well as several others doing what God designed them to do. Since we lost my wife a few years ago I havent been out there very much but I do cherish the gem we have so close to home.

Our first camping trip as a young family was ruined due to this entirely-preventable "government shutdown" and the idiots responsible for it. No money to keep a camping area full of trees and dirt open, but plenty of funds to rush the state police over to kick out a bunch of young families and retirees trying to enjoy the 4th of July weekend. Hypocrisy if Ive ever seen it... Combine this with the cigarette butts, trash bags, broken glass bottles, dirty diapers, condoms, and other garbage littering the campsites, and I can say without reservation that we will NEVER be returning to another NJ state park. Hell, things like this inch our family from escaping NJ entirely... PA is cheaper, cleaner, prettier, and even trusts you to pump your own gas and exercise all of your Constitutional rights. Take your money there, instead.

What a shame a Beautiful Campground, has the most disgusting Bathrooms I have ever seen, Port a Potties are better then these bathrooms. Checked in on Saturday and figured OK weekend people havent gotten to it, well here it is Monday afternoon and the same trash in the bathrooms is still in there, no toilet paper, no hand towels and no soap, and nothing has been cleaned, actually they look like they have not been cleaned properly in over a year, someone came in and changed one trash can on Sunday. Now lets talk about the Trash Dumpsters outside the bathroom, that are over flowing with trash, and attracting every species of animal in a 2 mile radius!!!! NJ we have the highest taxes in the nation, can someone please clean the Bathrooms in our State Parks so when people from out of state, dont say Ewww NJ is disgusting!!!

This lovely Gem of a park deserves 5 stars for the care and love that goes into the maintenance and preservation of this historic State Park. The lack of State funding has been made up by a devoted Park appreciation committee which spends hours assisting the park superintendent and maintenance staff, creating a wonderful natural environment for visitors to enjoy camping swimming and a pristine environment. There is a Facebook page and a website. There are very small charges for camping and RV camping. Donations are appreciated and taken over the appreciation committees website. There are also miles of walking hiking running and biking trails with plans to increase those in the near future. There are ample shower and rest facilities throughout the park done in a way to preserve the historic nature of this gem.

We camped in the group campsite area: We recently went on a camping trip and had a great experience. The only issues we had were the bathrooms could have been cleaner, one of the two stalls in the mens room was not able to be locked, only two of the group sites were labeled on trees to mark which site was which, there is no clear map for where the group sites are and their layout as well as the location of additional parking. We also wish some more spots could be cleared in the group site area to allow more people to fish at once. We went with cub scouts, so we had to take turns fishing at the site. Really nice fire rings. There is a grate that can be flipped out of the way which is great for prepping your embers and then cooking with cast iron. Overall good experience.
