This is my home away from home on the weekend (and sometimes during the week). For house and techno aficionados, Bijou reigns supreme in Boston as a curator of top talent. In just the last year, Ive been to countless shows hosted by the likes of Damian Lazarus, Lane 8, Claptone, Boys Noize, Destructo, REZZ, Sonny Fodera, Hannah Wants, Lee Burridge...among many others. It attracts a diverse crowd including everyone from your fist-pumping Jersey bro, to the aspiring fashionistas and wooked-out club kids. What can you expect for a night out at Bijou, heres a quick and dirty list of my personal pros and cons: PRO: - Talent - this is THE spot in Boston for the best in underground house and techno - Small, intimate club environment compared to Boston music venues like House of Blues, Middle East, Royale and Ascend Nightclub. - Sound - while Im no audio expert, Ive found that the fidelity of sound in Bijou is better than any other venue Boston. They do tend to be louder than other venues so I often bring ear plugs. - Staff - everyone Ive interacted with has been helpful and reasonable. Sure the security staff can come off as stern and imposing but compared to other clubs (*cough* Ascend *cough*) they dont hassle you unnecessarily and are more effective at diffusing potentially contentious situations rather than adding fuel to the flames. CONS: - Drinks - the selection is VERY limited. The only have one beer option (Corona) and the liquor options are a bit to be desired. As a whiskey/bourbon guy, the closest option that matches my preferences is Crown Royal. Also, if youre looking for a cheap night out, this isnt the place for you. Expect to pay $15 for cocktails. - Layout - there are couches and tables in the center of the club for those who reserved bottle service. There are no ropes, stanchions or any other barrier used to segregate those groups from the general audience so it makes for cramped quarters and frustration in the battle for personal space. I understand that these tables are money makers for the club but it is such a drag on the experience for everyone else.

The most screwed up bar in Boston. We went out there with at least 15 friends and took a table (an ikea table 6 inches square). We thought wed pay 30 bucks only but its the cover of 30 bucks AND the table... The bottle were overpriced! The music was SO loud. The sound was not well-configured; you could hear the bass saturating. >Midnight< People start dancing in the table pushing at each other. Then once fight breaks out... and 20 minutes later another one. alright. Then two steroid guys fighting crazy and the bouncer did NOT throw everybody out!! >1AM< My friend just spend 700 dollars each for one magnum and a bottle... and the table has been assigned to somebody else!!! The ground starts to get really dirty, people are pushing hard while you are dancing... throwing girls out of the table. It starts smelling terrible; my ears are on fire. >1:45AM< 2 other fights, the dance-floor. I cant stand it, I get out of there. Results: 1200 bucks for 3 bottles, ear concussion and a really bad experience for everybody (fact) Advice: I will never ever go to that club again and you should do the same! Pro: The music selection was good but not worthy of 30 bucks!

Even though I was on the list, because I waited in line outside for 20 minutes I was inside 5 minutes after they closed the list and I had to pay 30$. Then upon getting inside I garbed an overpriced beer in a plastic cup and wanted to go outside for a cigarette but I was told i have to wait an hour till i can go outside and be able to come back in. After waiting for an hour while listening to average main stream house/ techno beats I was told I had to wait another 20 minutes ( till 1;00 am) to go outside as their "smoking area" wasnt ready. Finally when I got outside I was forced into a tiny corner in an alley next to a dumpster and without any protection from the rain, this was their "prepared" smoking area. After another 30 min or less I wanted to have another smoke but I was told no as it was "too close to closing" (1;50). This was my third time in this club, though every place deserves at least 3 chances, however I am now sure I will never overpay for average music and being pushed over by the staff again.

Organized but not overly obtrusive. Classy but not overly snobbish. Hosts performances of good house music. Tends to be focused on quasi-mainstream electronic music rather than more experimental or underground sounds, but it brings in a decent variety and good talent. Good sound system, but not top of the line for a venue of this scale. Stage and room layout are good functionally and acoustically. CO2 cannons are a blast. It can be challenging to weave your way around when its packed, especially with the two rows of VIP tables, but its doable, particularly because security does a decent job of clearing a walking area around the perimeter. Staff are professional but overwhelmingly focused on being efficient over being friendly. Decent selection of liquor, served efficiently, but priced high. For beer, there is only Corona. More choices of beer would be very welcome. It has its drawbacks and areas for improvement, but Ive always enjoyed myself here.

Tried giving it a second chance after a terrible first experience since friends wanted to go there for New Years last night, couldve guessed the entire night from my first visit. A group of 15 of us buy tickets and get there around 10:50 to wait in line. The girls that were with us single got in right away, the rest of us are in the same exact spot of the line an hour later so decided to leave as to see the ball at least drop. During our time in line the staff continuously changed their mind on yelling for us to move forward or to back up. Our girlfriends went up to see what the wait was about to the bouncers and they said they could let them in but no guys. Again your staff is sexist and your company is immoral to sell more tickets than the amount of people you can fit inside. There was a good 50 people waiting in line for nearly an hour in the rain to start the new year. No none of us are ever giving you money again.

The place is a Joke. They tried to revive an old run down club from the nineties and it still looks like that . Extremely rude and unprofessional staff at the door . They tend to forget that people who come there should be treated well. It is very obvious that the people who run it have absolutely no clue how to run a nightclub. One of the bartenders kept giving her friends drinks at my expense ( had a tab open) and when i disputed it the manager ( Dimitri one of the rudest people i have ever met ) said that the drinks are on your bill you obviously ordered them , didnt matter what i said and they wouldt give my card back unless i signed it. So I did but later disputed it with my credit card company . This is no way to do business . You want a nice place where you are treated well go to CURE. Staff are nice and bouncers speak professionally. Forget bijou.
