The Natural History Center is small but packed with information on the local Acadia area. The main focus of the store is Ornithology, but it has all sorts of materials available for purchase as well a plethora of education materials. The real gem of the Natural History Center is the owner Richard MacDonald. He offers guided nature hikes and bird watching tours. From simple park strolls to more challenging hikes Rich is entertaining while providing a wealth of knowledge about the local area. If you are a new to Mount Desert Island (Bar Harbor) or are a seasoned visitor I highly recommend visiting the Natural History Center and scheduling some time with Rich.

It should be noted that this business is no longer located on Firefly Lane and may or may not be in business anymore? There is another Birdwatching and Nature Store located at 39 Cottage Street which has been in business since 1993.
