The play was good. It has some very funny lines -- many of which are laugh out loud funny. I didnt think the main character was the least bit compelling. He was a whiny. low energy, super pessimistic underachiever, a bad dad to his one son and did very little during the play to redeem himself from that initial impression. In fact, he declined in my opinion to the point where I didnt care at all what happened to him and found him completely unsympathetic. The love affair with Minnie was simply ridiculous. She was an obnoxious airhead and it made no sense at all.. including the hot sex...that he would be attracted to her. The play was way too long at 2 hours and 50 mins. The two nude sex scenes were unnecessary and both were awkward and did nothing to shed light on the characters or move the plot forward.

This is the theatre you hear about if youre out of town, visiting. And for good reason. With history dating back to Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, the seeds had been planted for the type of theatre Chicago is known for. Its the first one I knew about when I first moved here. The last performance I saw was with John Mahoney from Frasier TV show and it was so awesome to see him perform on stage! My seats werent the best, but you could still feel the electricity in the air, and thats what theatre is all about. I didnt really get any food or drink, so I cant comment on that, but hanging out in the lobby with the cast of characters which are theatregoers is always enjoyable. If its your thing, You should check out their season and pick out a show that grabs you. Its something you should try at least once.

As a theater it may be one of the best pure spaces in Chicago. Sight lines are wonderful, small enough to feel intimate, modern and well designed. My only complain is when the upstairs theater is in use the lobby can get a little crowded. Have seen some great shows on the mainstage, upstairs, and I love their incubator series in the garage - -Ive discovered a couple of very interesting and exciting smaller theater companies in the garage. Parking is well priced and fairly easy to access until its full and there are plenty of excellent restaurants right on Halsted for you to enjoy before or after (I like Balena).

I loved the play, Tribes! It was fantastically done here! It is not an enormously large theatre but a cozy, medium sized theatre which takes a large area of the block. The people are wonderfully helpful...They also had staff who knew sign language which i really appreciated. I suggest you get there early when you have your tickets since they had given mine away and we werent really late, which I was annoyed by because our seats were really excellent placed with a great view of the caption box.

Love Steppenwolfs thought provoking productions and how every season has a theme. They even have opportnities to debrief the shows with the cast and production team which is really cool way to experience theater. Ask me about joining the Steppenwolf Auxiliary Council, I have been a member for the past three years and it is a great organization for those interested in supporting the arts. Each April we put on the Red or White Ball as a fundraiser benefitting Steppenwolf for Young Adults.

Theres not a bad seat in the house here, its a big theater but manages to feel very intimate. They have three spaces, the main floor, the upstairs and the garage -- the garage is more of a black box space, but the other two theaters are modern and well appointed. Clean bright lobby and they also have an extensive bar. Theyre across the street from some excellent places to each, you really cant go wrong on that stretch of Halsted.

I picked up season tickets for $100, which is insane considering this is a world-class production company. They are the "preview saver series" seats, which are in the balcony and all shows are pre-opening night. The theater is intimate enough that balcony seating gives a great view, theres no squinting required and voices carry well. I cant imagine why anyone in Chicago wouldnt have season tickets here.

Chicago is abound with the arts, particularly theatre. Stop in the Steppenwolf Theatre and see some of the best actors in the country performing great plays. This venue constantly conducts OUTSTANDING performances. Considered a Chicago tradition in terms of its theatre history. Stop in one of the many outstanding high end restaurants on Halsted St. after the play. Guaranteed a great evening!

Ive been a season ticket holder at Steppenwolf for about four years and I always look forward to their productions. It is a great theater and there is not a bad seat in the house - whether you sit up or down you will have a great view of the show. The Ensemble members are stellar and are true professionals. Many of the shows are masterfully written & directed and a pleasure to watch.

We have been subscribers of the theatre for over twenty years and it rarely disappointed us, especially in the last ten. Attended the new Tracy Letts play "Linda Vista" yesterday. The five stars is for the Steppenwolf Theatre. I would give Linda Vista six stars if I could. It is raw, sexy (be prepared for nudity on stage) and very funny. Do not miss it!

A true Chicago gem. Chicago is a theatre town and this is the definition of Chicago Theatre. With the amazingly talented ensemble and innovative and new work, you are sure to have an experience at this theatre. Also, you never know who you might see on stage....a movie star or two have been known to grace this stage.

Love the quality of the theater performed here as well as the venue. Both free parking around the neighborhood as well as paid parking if youre running late. Discounted tickets available on websites like Groupon and Goldstar, as well as $20 tickets day of shows. Nice eclectic mix of theater, something for everyone.

If you know anything about theater, this place clearly lives up to high expectations. Critically acclaimed actors emerge from this place, and its easy to see why after just one performance. The talk balks after the show are insightful and engaging. Check it out for sure!
