We came to Gill Dawg for a business meeting - Myself (Manager), Our store owner, His Two little boys and three of our employees. (Total of 7 people). Our store owners children had selected music from the jukebox available to customers dining at the restaurant. The manager working 09/09/2016 had deemed the music inappropriate and canceled the music choice. The manager had sent a staff member to confront us about the music instead of confronting us themselves - They did refund us for the music that was skipped but Didnt really give us a good reason for it. The staff members excuse was "my manager is making me do this, i dont want to but i am sorry". Honestly, the music was not very "Heavy", The staff member said they only allow "stuff like jimmy buffett"... It is not that fact that they changed the music that offends me or my employees - Its the demeanor it was done in. It was like he was lecturing our whole table in front of a classroom - everyone was staring at us, it was a terribly awkward situation for everyone that could have been avoided. The staff member even walked to some other tables and explained why he had to turn the music off because they didnt understand why. I understand certain customers at a "jimmy buffet" style restaurant on the water adhere to the typical "beachy style" music. But for christ sakes, we are in New port Richey - i mean i live two streets away from this place and came in with 7 people ready to spend money, drink some beverages, and stay a while. Because of the fact that they changed our music, pretty much insulted all of us and our music taste, and didnt even compensate us (maybe with a free appetizer or something, i mean come on) 2 of our employees did NOT order food, sat down their drinks, and left after out conversation. the rest of us quickly ate what we had ordered and left. Again, changing the music is not what offended the 7 customers you had in your restaurant. Its the way your manager sent an employee to awkwardly "lecture" us (mind you we are all in our late 20s early 30s) about how our "music choice" was inappropriate for the establishment. Be tolerant, and be nice about it. The staff member made it clear he didnt want to change the music, other customers were even "BOOING" him as he did it... The manager should have came out and did the dirty work and offered us some kind of compensation in my opinion. Pulling one of us aside QUIETLY and saying "Hey, some customers complained about the music, i am sorry but we have to skip this song - Heres some free cheese sticks on me" would have been a better approach. and by the manager, not a server / bus boy. Not: "Cmon guys, who put on the metal music? we cant have that here. i have other things i could be doing - my manager is making me do this" and embarrassing us all in front of everyone. A table full of people - Bill was way over $100 - I just expected a more Welcoming atmosphere. I hate writing bad reviews but this really offended me - and my employees. For future reference the song was "Between the Buried and Me - Bloom"

When this place opened it quickly became one of our favorite "waterfront" hangouts along the river in Port Richey. It may be barely waterfront (on a canal branch from the river), but makes up for it with its park-like setting. Everything about Gill Dawgs seems well planned. There is plenty of space, its clean, colorful, tropical and designed to look like its been there a lot longer than it actually has. A large grassy area on the north side of the property serves as a concert venue (complete with a stage made out of a derelict 40 foot heeled-over boat that had lain there for years) and has hammocks among the trees and places for kids to play. The menu is good and fairly extensive...a notch above typical bar and grill fare. Great wings, burgers, coconut shrimp and onion rings are usually our go-tos. They have a pretty good beer selection, including local crafts and cocktails are suitably poured strong enough that you cant complain. GD is also a great place to get on the water for the more adventurous. You can rent any number of kayaks, paddleboards or other small craft and hit the river on your own or they also do some excursion pontoon stuff for groups. The place is also dog friendly and smoker friendly and has a good jukebox that can be hacked with the TouchTunes app. The property is basically open air with a covered bar and two covered patios plus a secondary bar and seating open to the elements. On weekends and special occasions they have live music on the patio stage. The owners are good corporate citizens, too, which is always a plus. They use local markets for much of the menu, participate in charity events and promote the area. Highly recommended place to hang out.

I used to go to Gill Dawgs about every week if not every other week. Food was great and atmosphere was wonderful. I had even recommended a few other people to go. But after my last few visits never again. I went the day before Mothers Day. There were plenty of empty tables but when we went to be seated we were told they were on hold from the kitchen and it would be about 30 minutes. After about 40 minutes we got seated. It took our waitress almost 20 minutes to even come ask us what we wanted to drink. When she did come to our table we told her we were actually ready to order and she told us she couldnt take our order as kitchen was not accepting orders. Not sure why we were seated then. When i asked her how long it would be, she got really snotty and said "Well you dont have to order anything", as implying we could just leave? What kind of waitress says that? I mean I was a waitress before and would try to be as sympathetic as possible knowing you work for your tips as well. We finally got our food over 40 minutes later. We ordered wings and calamari that dont take that long to cook. Needless to say after how rude she was, I will never recommend anyone here as this service along with the last few i had were horrible, this one just topped it.

My first time going there was actually for there ribbon cutting. Had a great time while I was sitting at a table. My husband and a few friends had never been there before so we decided to go there last night. BIG MISTAKE!!! We sat at the bar and the service was terrible from beginning to end. I practically had to be the bartender for a napkin (1) napkin. I ordered a beer and it was warm so I bought a bucket so they would chill enough to drink. I ordered 3 shots that are supposed to be cold... She hands me 1 chilled shot and the other 2 were warm, (I said why were 2 hot?) she said because I that was the last of the bottle. OK so why didnt she chill it.. I asked for my check and we all left. My tab was $70 and my tip was not so big. When I did get her attention after shouting her name "Michelle" she want pleasant to deal with. I can honestly say I have never had such poor service and will not return even if someone pays my bill.
