For this visit, the Wadsworth museum front had a giant "OMG" installation, which was interesting. The entirety of the bright, modern, spacious facility was jam packed with an eclectic range of work from many different artists and time periods, including Picasso and Dali. The trompe loeil and the painting including a cat with a bow tie were personal favorites of this art lover. A unique mobile phone supplement tour was available via a special website, and the museum has free WiFi. Parking was challenging; if you go on the weekend, street parking is free! I ended up parking a block away, but hoofing it over wasnt bad. One of the entrances was closed for construction.

Their free "2nd Saturdays" are such an amazing gift to the community. Ive been bringing my 3-year-old daughter since she was old enough to walk. They do kid-friendly crafts and sometimes have live music. Its been incredible to see my daughter get more and more into the art on display as she gets older. I love that the Wadsworth provides this opportunity to introduce children to art in such a positive way. The staff are always friendly and helpful. I do wish the cafe had kid-friendly options but there are other good lunch options in and around Hartford. My family will be visiting this museum for many years to come.

The building that the museum is in is quite spectacular and inspiring by itself. The exhibits are also great, and numerous. Youll need a full day to visit everything, and a couple if you want to take your time with everything. The Cabinet of Curiosity is just bursting with intriguing artifacts, you could spend hours there alone! Another great exhibit is the massive hall filled with hundreds of paintings from top to bottom, wall to wall; its awe inspiring!

This is a very cool art museum. It may not be huge but it has a deep and diverse collection that is well worth a visit. It is known for its collection of Hudson River School paintings, but there is a lot more to see. The gift shop is a cool place for cool gifts. The museum restaurant is lovely, located in the center of the museum and not relegated to the basement as in some galleries. The food is excellent.

One of the best art museums in the country. Street parking is free on weekends although a little challenging in Hartford, admittance is free for people under 18 and only $5 for college students with an ID. This museum is one of the best places you can see in this city if youre interested in world famous artists like Van Gogh, Monet, Dali, Pollock, and dont have a crazy travel budget.

I have visited many museums in New York and New England. This is one of the best. My only complaint is that they should really encourage their non-docent staff (servers at the restaurant and security) to learn more about the art. I think education is one of the Atheneums big things and they have neglected those people the public are most likely to be in contact with.

I drove all the way in from the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts as I am a regular film goer at the Wadsworth for over fifteen years. The street was all chopped up with no where to park and I am disabled with a walker. I am so disappointed that you did not let us know. I am in receipt of your Summer film program and no where is it mentioned.

This is by far one of my favorite museums and Ive been to a lot. (MOCA is also really good). They have art dedicated to controversial issues, political issues, race, sex, and more. They also incorporate the architecture and art so that they match and collaborate, thus creating specific atmospheres for each room. A very impressive museum!

Its a gem, it should be packed all the time. Truly a mesmerizing place. Lots of thoughts and efforts put on exhibits. On a minor note, I wish the "guns" and not-that-stimulating items from the Colt family were removed. Arent there any cool stuff from Hartford that do not involve firearms (like bicycles for instance)?

The Wadsworth is the oldest art museum in the United States. They have exciting new exhibits in their rotation with a more permanent collection of more classical works. Last years Coney Island exhibit was fantastic. If you live in CT or Western MA would need to take the time to enjoy this wonderful place.

This is a hidden gem in Connecticut! Its the oldest art museum in New England and houses work from Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Samuel Colt, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol to name a few! From ancient art created before the birth of Jesus Christ to modern abstract sculptures, youll find it all!

A good size with a ncely varied collection. They have something for everyone. Nothing earth shattering, but a solid collection. I wish they had more photography though. The space is also very nice and rarely feels too crowded. The building is beautiful and pretty unique as well. Worth a visit.

Its the longest continuously running Art Museum in America! Great breadth of art and the a good size so that you dont get overwhelmed by any particular art style. Also, if you have the right type of membership with the Walker Art Center, youll have reciprocity to this museum too!

One of the best. Every time there is an art museum exhibition, one of the works of art is from the Wadsworth. Its worth making the trek to Hartford to see. Between the museum and the Mark Twain house and Harriet Beecher Stowe home, these make a fun, cultural weekend in Hartford.

A much better museum than I expected it to be! We came in after 3 so it was free entry. They have many big name artists such as Dali and Monet, but there were far fewer people than somewhere like MOMA or the Met. It was a really great experience.

Great museum! Love the space and the setup. They have some really amazing pieces here as well. The Vlamnick piece was especially satisfying. On top of that, the staff was very knowledgeable and incredibly warm and friendly. Will return!

Spent the afternoon at the Wadsworth, there is so much to see. For a smaller muesem, they have a great collection from many eras and places. They have pieces from many renowned artists.
