This wonderful building with so much local history is sadly now mismanaged by VenueTech. They were successfully able to bully and overcharge Downey Civic Light Opera out of existence in 2013. They are unable to fill the theater seats with their second rate one-night productions and the city is forced to bail them out financially. The safety of the stage performers at Downey Theater is even at question now due to VenueTechs complacency and lack of professionalism. The local high school drama department could do a much better job of running this theater and would probably cost much less.

My good friend, Tom Colson, played the Lead part in Birdie in the 70s. I saw the Show. Thought it was good, but he got Panned (sort of) & took off with some Girl he met in Downey. (Never Mind)

"Singing in the Rain" playing now is a terrific musical with dynamite dancing, fabulous leads, and delightful humor. Dont miss it. The theatre has wonderful sight lines from all seats!
