DECEIT & DISCRIMINATION: This past weekend we were shocked to find the hostess and manager telling our group of 3 couples, each with our own well-behaved 4 y/o, that they couldnt seat us together--despite virtually the entire dining room being empty on a sunny Sunday afternoon (the patio was moderately full due to the warm weather). Puzzled, we asked why they couldnt simply pull a few of the many empty tables together. The vapid hostess stammered a few words then said, "Let me talk to my manager". She came back and said they could not pull tables together "because of reservations" (again, the dining room was all but empty). Thinking there must be some mistake, I asked to speak to this manager--to which the hostess pointed to the harried-looking tattooed woman behind the bar who barked out--"Yeah, we cant pull them together unless you agree to our per patron minimum of $100 each--INCLUDING THE CHILDREN." Everyone at the bar--and much of the staff--looked at her in disbelief. So, clearly, there were never any reservations or legitimate reasons to not serve us...we were being outright lied to and discriminated against. The $100 per customer minimum, the "reservations" etc. were just deceitful business practices simply because City Vineyard doesnt want to serve families with children (despite being directly next door to Pier 25, one of the biggest family destinations in Lower Manhattan). To think that a business in this day and age--particularly one doing business in stroller-filled Tribeca--would be so anti-children is truly unfathomable. Sure, Ive heard of a few snooty places in the city that arent exactly kid friendly, but Ive never heard of one so sleazy and deceitful that they would concoct lies and bogus $100 minimums to deliberately drive away families. Absolutely disgusting--please let other neighborhood families know to avoid this abhorrent & contemptible place.

Update from 6/20: I returned to City Vineyard. Samantha, the GM had reached out to me after my previous review, and offered me free entrees and a wine flight, so my boyfriend and I figured wed try again. I spoke to Samantha on the phone and confirmed wed be coming Tuesday at 6:30, and she said we are all set, and she looked forward to seeing us. When I arrived yesterday, Samantha wasnt there, there was no reservation for us, and nobody on staff knew what the heck I was talking about. I was nervous this place wouldnt redeem itself. Fortunately, they were able to seat us, and the manager on staff, Mario, was very nice and took great care of us. The food was good and served promptly, the wine was delicious, the views are still gorgeous, and our waitress was excellent! Thank you for doing right by your customers! 5/17 - Wow in 7 years of living in nyc this may have been my worst dining experience to date. This is the first time in my life where the food just never came!!! We ordered a few apps and a burger to share, expecting it all to come at once since its all small plates. The waitress was noticeably overworked and the place was very understaffed. Two of our apps came after about a half hour. Tiny little apps. Decent tasting but nothing extraordinary. After that another hour and a half went by. Our waitress said it was on its way but then it just never came. We watched countless other people get their burgers but no sign of ours. Finally, after waiting two hours and being told there was NO ETA as to when wed get our food, we got the check and left, STARVING! Oh and by the way, our waitress didnt bother to take anything off the bill. Seriously, do not come to this place. Unless you like starving. Yes the ambiance is beautiful, but we were so hungry and frustrated we couldnt even enjoy the nice weather. Id give zero stars if I could. Major major major disappointment!!!

Terrible experience. From beginning to end. I kept hoping something redeeming would come from what seems to be a charming locale on the water. Our initial greeting with the bartender left us with her shouting across the bar to find out what the vineyard name was for wines in question (??bartender at a "vineyard") after a ridiculous large tasting pour ,.. actually not complaining about that... we were met with disinterest and ignorance about the menu, after having to call the waitress numerous times to place a food order. She didnt know any of the daily specials or any details about the regular items. After an hour we called her over again to place an entree order, long after our wine and apps were finished, and again had to listen to her holleringj across the bar about what items were. Another 30 min pass and she had time to text in her phone..( also its not even half full) our entrees come and we ask to have some other wines. They never come and our $26+ entrees included a "rack of lamb" that could barely fill a slider with one fingerling potato and undercooked veggies with 0 seasoning and a steak that was "black and blue" it was so underdone..And trust me I do steak tartare all the time I dont mind rare , with soggy WAY over salted fries and more raw steamed veggies: even in the end when the bartender was deliberately asked to clear plates she gave a giggle and said " just push them out of your way I cant reach them anyway". Ive never left such a minimal tip; and regret giving her the $10 even then. Ill go out of my way to tell people not to go here

Went there last summer and had a nice time. My husband and I sat on the roof and had some wine and snacks. I thought that this would be a great place to return to this summer. I went this past Friday and had a terrible time. I waited at the bar for 40 minutes to try and get a drink (30 minutes of that I was actually at the counter and still couldnt get served). They were completely understaffed and it was packed. I dont understand how they could have so few people working on such a beautiful Friday, never mind a Friday that a lot of people had off or got out early. There were 2 bartenders but only one serving the people at the bar. The patrons became rude trying to get the bartenders attention. I should have left but I was crammed up against the counter and after waiting for so long already...I would not recommend going if it is ever that crowded.

I was so excited to try this place after a friends recommendation. We normally go to Pier 1 or Boat Basin for a bite by the river and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. The problem is the wait. There was a 2 hour wait for the downstairs part, and we waited an hour to go upstairs by the bar. Once youre up there, its a complete bar scene (not what we were looking for, we were looking for a chill vibe) and (even after waiting in line) you dont get a table. Instead, youre supposed to stand by the bar and be happy to pay $21 for a lobster roll. The menu is limited, and if Im going to stand and have to pay that much for a lobster roll plus a drink on top of it, for what? We ended up going to the West Village and eating on a patio. I will try this place again for lunch and maybe well have a better experience.
