We took a day trip to Vashon Island today and one of our planned stops was Palouse Winery. Their website advertises tastings on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm - 5pm. As we headed into town from the ferry terminal we passed the winery and they had two sandwich boards along the road advertising tastings from 2pm - 5pm today, Saturday. We made several different stops around the island and planned to visit the winery on our way back to the ferry. We love the fact that they advertised it as dog-friendly (we had our dogs with us) and we are always looking for small, family-run wineries in an effort to discover new wines. Sounded like a good plan... Around 2:30pm we pulled into the driveway and the owner looked at us and then continued what she was doing. We parked and decided to leave the dogs in the car for a minute to make sure that it was in fact, dog friendly. We didnt get that far, however. The owner looked up from what she was doing and said, "Were not doing tastings today, were too busy. Sometimes we have to make the wine." Sometimes we have to make the wine? They only offer tastings 6 hours a week - 3 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday. They have to make wine during that time? During the 6 hours a week that they have to woo potential new customers? Okay, so even if there were some reason that they had to make wine today, thats fine. But why not take in your signs advertising wine tastings "Today"? Better yet, why not replace those with a sign that says, "Closed today. We apologize for the inconvenience." If they had had a closed sign out there we would have seen it on our way into town from the ferry and made other plans. I havent tasted the wine and probably wont. The 1-star rating here is all about customer service.

My girlfriend and I stopped into Palouse winery on our first visit to Vashon Island. Owners George and Linda greeted us and after an hour of amazing wine and genuine conversation we felt at home. We joined their wine club not just because they put their all into their artisan wines but because we felt such a deep connection we wanted to support. Now a year later, we are lucky enough to get hugs of embrace every time we come by for tastings and I tell all my friends that George is the type of guy I want to be when Im older! I stopped by when George and Linda were pressing fresh grapes one day and they both had grapes all over their clothes and Linda was cleaning all the equipment they used that day. George waves me over and whispers to me "Mario, I am so lucky to have her (Linda) she works so hard." Thats when I realized how their wine is authentic as their character. Everything is done by hand and with more love than you can fit into a bottle. Palouse is open Saturday and Sunday for tastings. If you are lucky enough Sarah will be there ready to walk you through the tasting flight. Her knowledge, storytelling, and radio quality voice will take you on a journey with each bottle you taste. She is so captivating you will totally loose track of time and before you know it your tasting is over and you will want to come again on Sunday to do the tasting all over again! So if you are new to Vashon, taking a weekend trip, or have lived on the island for sometime...Palouse is an island treasure that you have to put at the top of your list. You will be so happy you came!

We have been wine club members for several years, and they are the only local winery we kept when we had to leave several memberships. We always have a great time when we come for wine tastings; its actually a Vashon Island destination when we want to go "over-island" for local excursions. Oh, and wonderful wines! (We take some on our trips to Mexico, so we can share with them with our restaurant friends in Puerto Vallarta.)

Stopped by this winery one weekend and was very surprised at the quality of their wines. For such a small family operated business they produced some amazing wines. I joined their wine club and now receive 3 bottles every quarter. Some of the wines are limited production and only go to their club members, so I joined. The husband and wife obviously have a passion for what they do in making these delicious wines.

Palouse is the best of both worlds in the wine business - a small, family owned feel and superb, award winning wines. Its so rare to go to any tasting at ANY winery and like everything that gets poured... but thats what happened here! Especially impressed by the 2013 Viognier, and their stellar 2011 Eclipse.
