The Saturday tour was very interesting. I guess this could be a wonderful and fulfilling lifestyle for someone who shares the values of the community, most of which I respect. What I found objectionable, as did my companion, was the unattractiveness and dreariness of all the shared spaces. Its as if no one assumes any responsibility for creating an attractive and appealing community because theres no pride of personal ownership. Remember the depressing bleakness of Russia under communism? Twin Oaks will remind you of that and of why most people could never live in a commune. You would think that out of 100 residents at least a small handful would have some aesthetic sensibility and the desire to improve their community in that respect. Do they consider that being too materialistic?
