This could be a great fishing place but it needs a lot of improvements. First of all, the rusty metal tables. In the sun and heat, it will almost melt your skin if it comes in contact with any part of it. It was melting a plastic bag I had on top of it. Then there is the disconcerting amount of dead fish floating in several spots I walked to. The grass and weeds also needs some attention. You cant get to the bank in many spots as well as around the table. There was trash everywhere. Others need to pick up after themselves and not clean their fish right where they are sitting so the next people that come along dont have to step around dead fish parts. The bottom of the lake is very gross. The only thing we caught was a ziplock bag full of, I dont even want to know, a beer can and some other unidentifiable trash. At first glance I said wow this is pretty nice, then we got out and everything changed. I dont plan on returning there any time soon.

We go to this lake on occasion since it is near where our boat is stored. CPS charges far too much for the entry fee, so an annual pass is a must if you plan to go more than once or twice a year. As with Braunig lake, the biggest downside is no swimming. Calaveras has two boat ramps. Both of which have courtesy docks and ample trailer parking. However, one ramp is short, slightly hidden, and not recommended for bigger boats, so everyone crowds the main ramp. Also, boaters here seem to have no common sense when launching/retrieving which can get frustrating as ramps and docks get tied up for way too long. Oddly, we dont have this problem at Braunig lake.

Great place. I love the no swimming. Hard to fish at a FISHING LAKE when people are swimming. Then when they break the rules and swim they cry getting hooks in their feet or if they swim on your lines and you hit them with a fishing weight. They need to ban jet skis. They just go around waking other boats and getting too close to bank fishermen. Then again I cast a 5 oz weight and hit them. No problem. The staff does the best it can. They are limited and stretched enough. People need to just clean up after themselves. The fishing is great some days other than that it is relaxing.

Very lovely lake. Nice and calm environment and the lake was pretty calm on the day I was there. Perfect for the jet skies. The staff at the gate were very helpful and nice. Im a disabled Vet and they explained to me the details of getting my "lakes and parks pass" for the year, which I had no clue about. They recognized the plates on my car and advised me. So thankful for that. Overall, a great experience, great little BBQ/beach area. Great place for the family to get out and enjoy the day in the water, and pretty close to San Antonio.

Overall great place to catch big game red fish but they do not enforce rules nor do people follow rules. Example; it says at the entrance 2 rods a person. So Im in the park for a fishing spot and for every one person theyre in possession of 4-5 rods widely spaced through out their fishing areas which leaves no room for regular people with one pole to enjoy any of the better fishing spots due to the lack of enforcement by park and wildlife officials.

Launching a boat is $20 for a family of 4 that have kids 6yr+, and a boat fee now applies to an inflatable / kayak/ etc. Just Ok facilities but always crowded it seems. NO SWIMMING allowed! Yes in a Lake Park you payed to enter. Most of the shoreline is staked out for days by campers during the popular weekends/holidays. Go somewhere during the day that earns your money more, or go for the fishing and camping which seem ok.

I have a blast catching Reds and catfish every time I go. There is NO Swimming because of fishing lines its to dangerous to swim. If you want to swim go to Canyon Lake. This a primarily a fishing lake Like many across the State, When launching a boat use caution DO NOT get your back tires in the water you will not get out Thats really the only problem I have with this lake.

This place is nice. Sadly alot of people dont know how to pick up there own trash. We spent the night there and paid $22 for 2 adults which is fine. Beautiful scenery except the dam factory in the center of it all. Did catch anything guess February 26, 2016 isnt a good day for fishing. Didnt really see anyone else catch anything either. Other than that good time.

Dont know why people dont like this place. Ur not paying for a resort. Hello u want clean water go find a white sand beach. You want better service go to a hotel. The place is and out door facility. U want outdoors you got it. :) i like it. I definitely will recommend anyone for fishing. Dont listen to all the cry babies on here. Its a good spot.

Hey is not the service that sucks, is the people who fish there. I have watched people throw trash on ground, fish with 6,7,8 poles, they hold spots, and so on. Now I will say that the park is bad on helping you with a pole desput or any matter and they cant do nothing. But all in all Its a good place to fish.

This is the worst park EVER. Its atrociously overpriced, theres trash EVERYWHERE, the trails are unkept and completely unwalkable, you cant swim in the water which you would think is stupid but then you see the water is disgusting. Please Dont waste your time here.

Too expensive. Not a lot of fish. They put up gate on the other of the river Bc there were some people who violate the private property. We went 3days and night. Mostly on boat and in the lake but didnt catch any. We throw net and caught lots of piggy perch.

They want $7 just to get in and look around, fat lady at the front was very rude. Cussed me and told me that I had to pay $7 just to use the restroom. Ha! The park is dirty looking and all the kids play in the dirt and run around eating tortillas.

Worst campground/park I have ever had the misfortune to stay at! Rude attendants, and campers. Dirty and people there will steal anything not locked up or tied down. We paid for 3 days but left early. DONT GO THERE!

Filthy, crowded, little to no shade. Bought ice cream for our kids at the bait and gift shop there and the ice cream was melted and refrozen. This place shoul be an embarrasment to cps who owns it.

Overpriced for entry..... Especially since it was built for a cooling system for the electrical plant. No swimming..... What.... Makes u wonder whats in the water, but people still fish in it.:)

Was awesome. Quiet, clean, beautiful place. Great time fishing with my nephew. He got me out of house after the cooped up weekend because of Harvey.

Inconsistent management, Poor groundskeeping, worst boat ramp design, elevated prices and disgruntled employees make this a great place to avoid.
