First visit to Winston-Salem and wanted to find a place to eat that provided WiFi. Foothills Brewing fit the bill and the yelp reviews were favorable. The atmosphere was casual and warm with brick walls, wood tables, and plenty of light from the street front windows. I arrived near 7:00 pm and was greeted immediately and seated promptly. Theres also outside seating. I planned on counting calories and thought Id order a Cobb salad but I heard the words "Dirty Southern Burger, medium rare" come out of my mouth. I dont know how that happened, but my mouth knew what it was talking about. Because the burger was topped with pimiento cheese, bacon, and OMG fried pickles! On a buttery, lightly toasted bun. And, yes, it was indeed cooked to order with a pink center. I chose a side of hand-cut fries (sides are extra), which were fried and salted to perfection. I dined alone, but if I was with a friend I would have ordered a flight of beer. The experience of comparison tasting would have been more fun to share. Instead, on the recommendation of a previous reviewer, I ordered a Key Lime Margarita. I was not disappointed. Delicious, potent, and twice as large those served at TGI Fridays, (for example) yet, not overloaded with ice. Nice! Despite having enjoyed an elegant sufficiency, I ordered the triple layer chocolate cake, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect texture, moist and dense, without being too fudgy, and not overly sweet. It was enormous, truly too much for one person, and I could only manage two forkfuls. So, I gave the rest to the family seated beside me. Thats a lie. I took it home and had it for breakfast the next morning. Darrian was my server and couldnt have been more friendly and accommodating. It was trivia night (Tuesday 9:00 pm), and I regret not staying to play. Ill be back, though.

This is my first time eating at the brewery. Ive enjoyed the beer for years. The food was no where as good as people claim. We came in at around 10pm on a Sunday night. Our waiter was far less than enthusiastic to be serving us. First greet was approx 10 minutes after sitting down at the first booth near the kitchen entrance. We order beers and the charcuterie app. About 5 minutes later ordered our entree. I got the chefs choice "gourmet" tacos with baked Mac and cheese. My girl got the cheese burger med rare and our friend got the buffalo chicken wrap with o rings. Our food came out approx 20 mins after ordering. Our app was completely forgotten about and the waiter admitted he forgot to ring it up. We turned it down as our entrees where already in front of us. My girls burger was well done when ordered med rare. My "gourmet" tacos were just blackened chick with romaine, tomatoes, and a sour cream based sauce. For $13 I was extremely let down at the quality of the tacos. The burger wasnt cooked anywhere near correct and the chicken wrap was fine according to my friend. For all the hype to food and service gets Im glad Im not local to Winston because I will not return to eat here but the beer is phenomenal so i will continue purchase back home. We didnt tell the server of the issue with the burger because we got the feeling he wasnt interested in making our dinner the best it could be.

My girlfriend and I have been waiting for a year to visit Foothills, we are huge fans of the cottonwood pumpkin ale. Our excitement was quickly subdued by a rude waitress and horrible service. It took forever to get our beers, our questions were left un answered, or answered with vague unintelligent responses, that is if we were lucky enough to get our waitresses attention. I understand she may have alot going on and i should not judge the whole experience on this one staff memeber, but we spent just under $100 and I dont think its unreasonable to expect common courtesy to a few customers whom are clearly fans of craft brews and good food. The food was very good, I had the Cuban and it was delicious. However, with the craft beer craze in full swing, there are much better experiences to be had. I recommend American Ale House in Hickory or OMB in Charlotte to name a few. Im sorry Foothills, but when you love what you do, it should show. I really am disapointed to write such a negative review of a brewery I had such high hopes for.

***UPDATE*** After making this review and speaking with two different managers, I am changing my original 2 star review to 4 stars based on the prompt response I received. Although it took from Saturday to Thursday for the extra charges to be credited back to my account, both Whitney and Heidi were professional and polite, understood my frustration, explained why the issue had occurred, and offered a gift card as compensation. I will be returning for this reason. I went to eat dinner here on Saturday 8/6/2016, and upon checking my bank statement online this morning noticed that my debit card has been double charged. Are you guys in the habit of charging customers twice for the same meal? This is an enormous inconvenience for me and may have to dispute the charges with my bank. I may not ever return to this place for this reason.

If I could give it 100 stars, I would. Husband and I went here while we visited from Ohio, went thirty minutes out of the way, and it was ABSOLUTELY worth it. I got the Jade IPA. It was hoppy, fruity, and delicious. He got the coffee stout, and it definitely tasted like straight up coffee. We got beer cheese pretzels. While the pretzels were just fine, the beer cheese was out of this world. We also got the smoked platter. We didnt taste the slaw, but the wings were amazing, the sausage was fantastic dipped in a little bit of cheese, and the Mac n Cheese was MVP. The bacon wrapped meatballs were dry and didnt have much flavor. We loved the wait staff, even for a Saturday. Heather was our waitress, and she was amazing! She is very attentive and personable. If you want a well-priced lunch or dinner, make the trip. Its worth it.

Tried this place at the recommendation of a co-worker. They didnt have the sandwich he recommended, so I had the "Brewhouse Cuban," pulled pork, ham, and Swiss cheese with house made mustard on a roll. The sandwich was spectacular. The house mustard is a slightly spicy brown. It has a slight bite and a wonderful flavor. To drink, I started with the house brand Kolsch. This is a light lager. It has a bright taste and a light sunny color. Id recommend it highly. My wife, who does not like beer, gave it a ringing compliment, "I could drink it." To follow up, I tried the Sexual Chocolate Stout. I was not amused. I found it to be bitter, although, I did find a hint of chocolate. I asked the waitress to take it away, not expecting her take it off the check. She did. Overall, a great experience that I expect to repeat.

Foothills has so much potential but to me always falls short. Ive been there 3 or 4 times now and Ive never had what I would call a good meal. If it wasnt for their beer I would never go there. There beer options are nice and the menus looks good, but the food is always mediocre at best, heavily under-seasoned with every meal Ive had there. There are glimpses of brilliance but they always vanish much quicker than they appeared. They have a salad on their menu my wife likes, which is nice coming from a brew pub. I know its totally up to the establishment but Ive noticed a trend in this region with larger parties getting terrible service because gratuity is automatically added. When I know friends want to go to foothills I have a snack before I go, not a great statement for a brew pub.
