A fantastic display of local talent in a beautiful old-time theatre. Tickets are cheap at $20 and there are refreshments and snack foods, water and alcohol available at reception. The seating is a little squishy and uncomfortable. But the charm and beauty of the place soon helps you get past it. The theatre is 150 years old and the original curtain is on display in the area outside the entrance to the theatre room. The stage, lighting, sound and costumes were outstanding in the performance I saw in September 2007. This place is steeped in elegance and old charm. Ample parking and right in downtown wilmington, its an easy walk to restaurants and bars.

I love Thalian Hall. Like much of Wilmington, it has a quirky, lost-in-time feel that creates a perfect setting for the annual (even more quirky) Cucalorus Film Festival. Thalians main theater has two balcony areas and several boxes, giving it a very grand feeling, and the highly decorated trim around the stage and the box seats is gorgeous. Though it lacks the sophisticated polish of many more modern art venues, it well makes up for it with a historical, more cozy feel that makes you instantly feel at home. A small black-box theater and a multi-purpose reception hall make Thalian a nice setting for many events.

Live theater is done well. Performances are top notch. Theaters are small relative to the big city shows. Parking is always a hassle - have to park in the street and walk or pay in a garage. Lots of good eateries nearby to make a full evening out of it.

Beautiful theatre! But, The Green Day Performance on 4/9/16 was marred by a poor sound system. Singing was difficult to hear and I heard speakers crackling occasionally like a bad connection. Other shows have not had this problem.

My wife and I have seen several shows here, and we never have a bad time. The main theater is a work of art, and the place is usually packed. See whats playing and get your tickets early for the best seats!

They have great live performances. They also have featured art and foreign films and other smaller theatre works in upstairs rooms. Parking on-site is limited, and there are two garages across 3rd street.

I believe Thalian Hall is the oldest continuously operating theater in America. It underwent an extensive renovation a number of year back and it is beautiful. A great place to take in a show or movie.
