I played in a corporate league on this course weekly for 5 years and while it has been dramatically improved from the cow pasture I remember pre - 1990, it is still less than enjoyable to play here for a couple of reasons. 1st - the fairways are far from spacious; they tend to be quite tight, actually. 2nd - the traps are as hard as cement. And finally, the rough is as unforgiving as it comes. While I routinely shoot in the upper 90s on almost any other course, here it is a challenge for me to break 100 - simply because when you get in trouble - there is no way out. The "heather" that dominates large portions of this course - is unpenatratable by early summer - and once youre in there - you cannot get out (assuming you can find your ball at all). On other courses, I can play 2-3 rounds without losing a ball... here - 2-3 HOLES is a challenge. If they put more effort into making the course a little more "forgiving" then it would be a good place to play, (convenient, inexpensive, etc.) but I quit my league simply because it wasnt fun to play there anymore... On the plus side, the Staff (and the other golfers) are generally very nice.

Alling Memorial is a public 18 hole course located on the edge of New Haven and North Haven. Played there for the first time recently and had a good time. The greens are in decent shape though a bit underwatered evident by the burnt grass. The course layout isnt overly challenging and is pretty forgiving with its wide fairways and equally wide teeboxes. Overall its what youd expect for a cheaper priced public course and if my weekday late afternoon round was any indication, it seems you can always get on and have a pretty relaxed pace of play. Ill be back again.

Nice staff. Very hilly and narrow fairways. Im a beginner so found it challenging. Better golfers might enjoy it more.
