The pioneers museum is the old courthouse. It is free, easy to include in any walking tour of downtown, and includes historical exhibits of varying quality and diverse themes. The permanent exhibits include a couple old carriages, a collection of guns, a restored courtroom, and a progression of indian, surveying, mining, and ranching exhibits ending with a restored furnished house typical of early Colorado Springs. There is also a room dedicated to the black/African American experience of early Colorado Springs and a larger room dedicated to the tuberculosis facilities that featured prominently in the early history of COS. Temporary exhibits when I visited included a small room of local paintings and a larger room tracing historic businesses in the city, neither of which would warrant a visit in their own right. The building itself is historic and the grounds include a sculpture of a man who became famous for welcoming school children to his pumpkin farm every fall. It is rather whimsical and, of course, connects with a generation of school children who enjoyed leaving their classes one day in the fall and bringing home a small pumpkin.

The tour guide at the front desk was amazing. Not only did he spend some extra time to get to know us but he also made sure that he went over the map of the museum letting us know what was where and answering any questions that we had. He showed that he really enjoyed doing his job well. The great place with a lot of history and information. Different information about people and things that are going on in Colorado Springs. There was even a working old fashioned elevator that was easy to operate with the directions posted and a play area set up for kids to learn about Native Americans and the Trail West, as well as a dress up room.

The staff at the Pioneers Museum are incredible! They went above and beyond our expectations to provide us with a unique and vintage-inspired engagement photography shoot with our clients. Haley and Jim were especially kind and helpful, ensuring that our shoot was accommodating and impactful. If youre looking for a unique place to visit, spend some time here. Its free, but your donation helps keep it alive!

I was impressed with the new exhibit, The Story of Us, a fun, alphabetical look at Colorado Springs history. There were attractive displays and engaging touch-screens about local topics, some familiar, some unknown to me. I love to bring out-of-town guests, young and old, to this great FREE site in our city. And it has a nice little gift shop with more unique souvenirs that just your typical t-shirt.

Great place to take the kids. Fun scavenger hunt, local historic building and artifacts. Nice representation of different cultures and eras in the Pikes Peak region. The hands-down favorite for my kids (6 and 4 years old) is the play room. Covered wagon, Teepee, train station, fake food and money, drums, letters, tickets, and costumes!!! If they had WiFi and a coffee shop, Id stay forever.

Great FREE activity. Lots of interesting exhibits from Colorado Springs history. One of the most interesting pieces is Helen Hunts actual house. One of the workers told us all about how they moved Helens house into the museum and preserved it exactly how she left it. Another great Free activity is going to see Helen Hunt falls about 20 minutes away. Beautiful hike for the whole family!

No food or drinks allowed inside, was not noted anywhere beforehand. Kids were bored, the scavenger hunt is a joke, theres no direction for them to help find anything. Nobody answered the handicap access door that was locked, forcing us to carry a stroller up 2 sets of stairs, the "kids play area" is extremely tiny and for babies only. Disappointed to say the least

Pretty cool museum. You can see the old courtrooms. An entire house is inside the museum. The gallary is very nice and they have great service. You get to ride a 100 year old elevator. It tells you a lot about Indians, womens history in Colorado, Colorado black history, company history, and a great kids exhibit called "Trip to the Top of Pikes Peak."

All around great musuem. Its hard to believe its free. The kids love the old fashion elevator, but the stairs are beautiful. The gift shop has nice and unique items. I enjoy learning about the local area, and I highly recommend a visit for historical info and beauty enjoyment. They also have special events that are fun to attend as well!

My family and I live in Colorado Springs. Today was our first trip to the museum. We had an amazing experience. The staff was so friendly; it was not only refreshing but impressive. I particularly enjoyed the childrens play area and old fashioned elevator. We will surely go back again.

Wonderful museum if youre looking for some great history on Colorado springs! Free admission to anyone wanting to learn but they do accept donations. I usually will head over there 1 or 2 times a week to check out some things I may have missed. All in all a must see in Colorado springs.

When I visited Colorado in the summer of 2016 this was on the list of things to do. It was fascinating and free! We spent almost 2 hours in there and could have spent another 2 hours there, easily. The history in the museum helped when touring other places. Im going back there again!

Totally historical for Colorado Springs, and the Indian population that inhabited the area in the late 18th century. The museum was the courthouse until 1903 and was saved by the locals. The detailed information about the history is superb and the artifacts are wonderful.

We lived in CO for five years and have been to the museum multiple times. We now live in GA and came to visit and went again. We love the friendly staff and all the knowledge my girls get out of visiting. The displays are great and everything is well maintained.

Fabulous experience!! Not to be missed on your trip to Colorado Springs. Biggest Van Briggle collection in the world. Old dated pieces. This is the best museum in Colorado for Colorado history. Great books in the museum store.

Its a "free" museum, which tends to mean lower quality attractions and higher taxes in the area. This one is all right though. They have a fair amount of cool western artifacts and some fun activities, such as dressing up and snapping a picture.

Was really cool. Wasnt quite pioneerish but had alot of historical artifacts and items from the local area. Had an amazing antique elevator that is still in operation. Also is located in original courthouse and has preserved courtroom from the 30s

Delightful free museum. They do take cash donations only. We learned a lot about the founding of Colorado Springs, and Colorados history of tuberculosis sanitariums. Can be done in an hour, slightly more if you really take your time.

Colorado Springs does a great job of maintaining this beautiful building and updating exhibits as needed. For a free museum, its so well done! Im always impressed. Love the "A-Z" exhibit that tells about Colorado Springs history.
