Phipps was an incredible venue for our outdoor wedding and reception. Definitely recommend using the tropical garden and outdoor patio for cocktail hour! We primarily worked with Nina and Carrie, who were both so accommodating and sweet. We had a fulltime wedding planner but Nina help a lot with the decorations, and clean up on the day-of. Some standout things include: If youre having a summer wedding, the tent is included, so you have an automatic rain plan. We decided last minute that we wanted to serve drinks and ice cream during the service, and Carrie at Phipps made it happen. The only negative is that Phipps handles some of the sub-contractors such as linens and staging, so you cant really reach out to the original party in case theres an issue. At our wedding, the decorator had an issue with the staging folks over a big mishap, but since Phipps signed the contract with the staging company, it was hard to get the two parties in touch. However, Phipps was generous in partially reimbursing us for the issue. Overall I would recommend Phipps for their beautiful venue, but also their awesome staff who goes all out to give you the wedding of your dreams!

I wouldve given this 5 stars before Dec. 31st. After four years of continuous membership, I went down to Phipps on New Years Eve with friend when my ex-husband was taking of my 8-year-old daughter. She was laid up with a serious orthopedic injury, and she was really disappointed not to have been able to go. I was actually having a thoroughly lovely time enjoying the flowers, plants, and holiday lights. About 25 minutes before closing time, I was in the East Room and saw that people were decorating masks. I mentioned to a volunteer that my daughter was too ill to be there and asked if it would be possible for me to make a mask for her. The volunteer frowned and said, "This activity is for children. If I made an exception for you, I would have let all the adults make one." I just looked down at all the supplies left over and wondered how theyd all be used up in the time left. Of course they wouldnt, and I then realized this volunteer was "just following rules". Nothing I said at that point made any difference. I did NOT nenew my membership.

f there is a job out there that involves walking around the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and just commenting on how nice everything is, get ready for my application. This place is nuts. First, let me say that its EXPENSIVE. $15 to get in the door. But, it was $15 well spent so the expensiveness didnt even stand out to me. Ive blown a lot more on crappy movies that leave me unsatisfied. We were in there for at least two hours, and there were so many things to experience here beyond the usual bo-garden experience of room after room of obnoxiously beautiful plant life. There were plants to smell, birds to touch and let walk on you, childrens gardens to play in, living butterfly exhibits to feel like a child again in. Hanging out here, I really had FUN. Even just looking, there was so much--bonsais, edible plants, cacti, a French garden, etc. The gift shop is also nice and affordable. Creative, unique stuff. Free parking in a certain part of the lot is available for patrons, which is just plain kind.

We have been to a number of botanical gardens over the years, and the settings of Phipps Conservatory seemed to us a little better than any other, with the possible exception of Longwood Gardens. FYI, the parking in the center of the street is free, while the parking on the curb costs a bit. Behind the conservatory is a new educational complex featuring solar arrays and a display screen that shows how much power they produce and how much is consumed. Ill be curious to hear whether the solar panels production ever catches up to the consumption, as the accompanying text says it does.

I love Phipps Conservatory, truly a national treasure. But the Christmas season crowds were ridiculous. We couldnt move, see anything, or get from room to room. For the entry fee, all I saw was other peoples backs. Im surprised the fire marshall hasnt said anything, its certainly against codes to be that crowded indoors. Dont go during the holiday and youll love it. UPDATE: Phipps responded very kindly to my inquiry about crowds, and responded that they were seeing record attendance this year and were not expecting it. Their response spoke highly of them as an organization.

Stunning. Arrived here an hour before opening to take the time to tour the outside gardens on the north side (between the main facility and the Columbus statue) as well as the the aquatic pools on the south side. Was the first ticketed guest of the day; took my time to enjoy the amazing flowers and plants, had a great lunch in the café - all together spent about four hours here. Free parking in the center-island across from the main entrance. Well worth a visit and highly recommended!

Phipps is the perfect place to read a book during the day & relax around beauty. I come here on a day off to enjoy the new flower shows that change seasonally. Super.Natural is what is currently going on & you can see the amazing glass art from Seattle artist Jason Gamrath. The butterfly room is my favorite, I love looking at the little cocoons & when they release them from the cases its so lovely! I would recommend Phipps to any out of Towner.

Make sure you are asking questions from correct staff members. I asked one worker what she was planting. She didnt know! Asked another if the butterflies were native or tropical. She didnt know! Asked a third the name of a plant in the edible garden. HE didnt know! But last guy told me that he and the others were just maintenance workers and those who would know were likely on break. Conservatory is a precious Pittsburgh gem.

Needing a break from the snow, we ventured out to Phipps today. It was the best decision we could have made. The Orchids were in bloom and the smells were a delight to the senses. The tropical room was was spectacular as were the waterfalls. Colorful glass sculptures against green foliage - just stunning. We truely enjoyed our day. Cant wait to visit again in the spring to see the new show.

I get in free with my student ID (both CMU and Pitt get free admission bundled with tuition) so Ive been here a number of times. Its a lovely spot to take a study break. The suggested route is a one-way loop that may take as little as 20 minutes if you really hustle to an hour or more if you linger. I enjoy the rotating seasonal exhibits and the model train set thats often up and running.

You really forget that you are in the United States while strolling through this carefully planned-out conservatory. The colors are just breathtaking and the attention to detail is absolutely commendable! If you are want to do a lot of photo taking, bring a charging pack as you will need it! I am not a shamed to admit that I spent about 30% of my battery on the butterfly exhibit alone.
