The tee boxes were in pretty good shape. The fairways were filled in cut nice. The rough was long and punishing. The greens were a little slow, but I like them like that since it gives me a chance to be a little aggressive. There were some pretty exciting holes with some real elevation changes. Since it was my first time, there were several holes I would have played different so I’m looking forward to another shot at the course. When I play at a course for the first time, I call this unknown knowledge my ‘new course index’. I got a 92 with a bogey which I think is a stoke or two below my handicap (17). The driving range was a little strange for a new person. You had to walk along a dirt trail next to a chain link fence to get to it. For a new person, I felt like was really far away from the starting hole and then felt rushed. They had really nice soft mats at the driving range which I like a lot. I went on a groupon, but I didn’t read the small print close enough and my groupon was not really a deal. The guy at the pro shop must have felt sorry for me and gave me complimentar drink tickets and a bucket of balls for my golf friend and I, although they might have been part of the groupon deal. Everyone I met at the course was friendly, easy to talk to and helpful. I got paired up with a local who loved to give his opinion of each hole at the tee box. He was a real nice guy who was a pleasure to play with. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because of the odd access to the driving range.

This is where I race to after work. Have been doing so before Billy Casper Golf took over and loved it before and after. Before - it was REALLY inexpensive. 20 bucks w/cart for twilight rounds but I admit, although the holes were great (lots of elevation changes, decent balance of water and other hazards throughout the course) the fairways and rough and greens were not that well maintained. BCG has done a great job cleaning up the course, so much so that it almost feels like a different course. If youre able to sign up under one of their membership plans (and can play during weekdays), do it - it is probably a BETTER deal than before. If you throw 75 bucks down for the advantage card it will pay off as you get discounts and early twilight and the fares will end up being comparable to the old muni rates. The range is a bit overpriced in my opinion - but theyve also done a great job cleaning up the range. In short - they know what theyre doing over there, the course is fun and challenging enough but not impossible (slope rating of 130 I think from blacks) with LOTS of blind shots so it helps if youre playing with someone who knows the course, and the service is excellent. If you plan on playing frequently mostly at one course in the area this is where I would recommend to go

Very disappointed. I made an early tee time figuring I would beat the crowds, but as I was called to the starter I find out I will be joined (and carted) with a man, his wife and son who announced, "were not very good". Now Im not that great myself, but no joke, mom and dad were each taking 10 to 12 strokes per hole with 2-3 practice swings on every attempt. I tried politely to speed them up to no avail. After 2 1/2 hours we finally made the turn and I had to bail as I was out of time. So I went to the club house the get my rate adjusted only to find out they flat out refused to give me anything but a rain check or tokens to their miserable excuse for a practice range. I was flabbergasted. I guess the new management did get rid of some of the geese and the horrid crap littering the first and third holes but how about getting a Marshall out there and make sure people are keeping pace, and if they are not, they should at least give people their money back. If this is what the new management is about, It looks like all they care about is packing the course and collecting cash, because they sure dont seem to care about their customers. So unless your willing to put up with a 5 plus hour round, shoddy conditions and a crappy practice range, steer clear of this place.

Redgate is a good golf course with a challenging but risk reward layout. I have never had a problem with anyone who works there. Yes, there is a goose problem but please explain to me how to deter a wild animal, that flies ,in the center of a metropolitan area. The pace of play can be slow/grueling at some times, however, this is a municipal course. 2.5 hour front nine with beginner golfers is expected, this isnt a course where you can spray the ball and get away with it. Frankly, they paid the same amount of money to have access to the course and were only 15 minutes off pace. Not bad for the hacks described above. The greens are always fantastic here. Number 2 green and number 11 are usually the only greens that struggle. I think Billy Casper is doing a great job with this course and I have played on far worse conditions on courses that charge 3x the amount as Redgate. Want to play a fast round early in the morning, then I suggest looking into a private club. Anywhere in this area on a muni is not going to be a speedy round. I play Redgate a lot and have always had an enjoyable round and have always had a professional experience with staff and management.

Not sure what I was expecting but for the price of the booking, I was expecting a halfway playable course. The tee boxes were hard as rock, and mostly dirt, could barely get my tees in the ground. Also this isnt so much the courses fault but there had to be over a hundred broken tees in the tee boxes. Fairways were patchy and had a big weed issue. The greens were bumpy, amazingly slow, and ridden with divots. Yeah its a municipal course but its pretty obvious it lacks regular maintenance. Also, there is a HUGE goose problem. Theyd huddle in the fairways, tee boxes and greens, I was more concerned about killing one off the tee than where my shot was going to go. And of course with that many geese, there are droppings EVERYWHERE. The only real positive element to this course, to my surprise, was that the bunkers were in great shape. Ive played significantly better courses for half the money. Keep your wallet shut and move along.

We played Redgate on the 14th of July with an early morning tee time taking advantage of the Early Bird Breakfast and Golf special (advertised on their web site). It seems the staff and management arent on the same page since the kitchen wasnt open to get the breakfast sandwich. In fact, the clubhouse wasnt open for our tee time. Overall the condition of the course was great. Tee boxes and fairways had grass, greens werent hard and the rough was playable. We got our breakfast sandwich (hotdog) when we finished our round. Redgate is quite a ways away from me but Id come back and play again.
