We stayed 29 Dec 2014 through 1 Jan 2015; leaving a day earlier than anticipated because of (1) extremely poor and incorrect pricing policies in the Birdcage Lounge; charged three different prices for the same cocktail on three different days (2) extremely poor linen and towel quality (3) No Quality assurance cards for customer feedback anywhere in the facility (4) stayed in the Spa building and were never told about shuttle service to the main building (5) attended the Seafood Buffet on New Years at a cost of $85.00 per person with NO complimentary champagne. The buffett was the most disappointing dining experience I have ever been to at a facility "promoted" like the Grand. Food was COLD and not replaced on the line. Steamed cherry stone clams were on the ice bed and had never "opened" signifying inedible. The deserts were not fit to eat, certainly not prepared on site (eclairs, etc.); a 5 gallon tub of ice cream was totally melted (hard to use for a sundae), the "scoop" was not clean and smeared with ice cream and simply dropped in a bucket of water. Lastly the service was incredibly incompetent (no water, plates and service were not cleaned from the table). Sushi bar was "dried" out and bordered on inedible. A "Resort Fee" was added to cover the cost of "proposed" lagniappe..so much for that! Lines were too long for the "coffee and cookies"; the "band", much less a drummer, never appeared for the proper presentation of the "colors"; too cold for fishing (no need for poles and bait); and not sure what else wa supposed to be provided at such an high "fee"...but of course the property is owned by political bureaucrats (Retirement System of Alabama" so why would anyone expect more than what political employees are going to provide? Trash was not removed from the room daily. This is a "hotel" which tries to charge on the par of resorts like Barnsley Gardens (Adair, GA); French Lick, IN and perhaps others but it does not even meet the standards of a Days Inn or sub-par Holiday Inn. The absolute most disappointing stay we have ever undertaken..bored, left two days early and will NEVER, EVER return. Thanks for NOTHING Marriott and the State of Alabama. Yall did not even promote the local community with literature in the rooms. We had much better meals (we found them on our own) at Tamarras; Julwin, Camilla.Should have had a QA check before I was forced to post this report.......DO NOT BOOK THIS FACILITY..it is not even close to a price point for cost incurred.

I come to this Resort every year for a business meeting. It is not my choice. For some reason my company renewed is contract with this Resort. The rooms are dated, has that old scent and a bit scary. In the beginning, my trip was going fine. We decide to go out as a family and enjoy ourselves for the day. So I wrapped up all our electronic Chargers and stored them in computer bags, zipped up, in my closet with the closet door closed. When we returned to the room to relax and charge our Electronics, we noticed our bags had been tampered with and our chargers were missing. They were unable to steal our Electronics because all of our Electronics came with us. However we did leave our laptops and our laptops were untouched. Im assuming that is because our laptops are very easy to track. After informing loss prevention and management of our situation, he was in disbelief and begin telling the stories of how previous visitors claimed their items were misplaced or stolen and they misplaced them personally. Then he assured us that his staff would not steal simple items such as electronic Chargers. There is no way possible I could misplace chargers that I specifically placed in a computer bag, zipped up in my closet with the closet closed. And when I come back to the room everything is missing from my computer bag except my computer. Loss prevention assured me that they will launch an investigation regarding the missing Chargers. Then he found pieces of cheap chargers to allow us to borrow for the night. I cannot possibly recommend this hotel to anyone. Something as simple as Chargers were stolen but the staff made us look like we were the incompetent ones. What really bothered me was those chargers went to my childrens tablets and they were unable to charge their tablets due to this thievery. They were very unhappy kids. I was willing to accept blood stain on the sheets, roaches found in the bathroom and a hot blowing air conditioner but stealing my items is where I draw the line. If you do decide to stay at this hotel please take my advice. Take your own sheets, disinfectant spray and lock up all personal items including electronic chargers in your safe. If you do not lock them in your safe, please take them with you.

My boyfriend and I decided to take a "vacation" if you will to The Grand Hotel Marriott and both of us were very pleased from the moment we arrived until we left. Right from the start the man providing security was very pleasant, the valet attendants were very inviting and polite, and even checking in went very smoothly. Although we didnt get the room we requested due to them being at 100% occupancy we still got a very comfortable room with a decent view of the marina but more so just overlooked the parking lot but it wasnt a big deal since the resort offered so much more than just sitting in the room. We went to the pool which was huge, had a separate area for adults only, and plenty of service staff. We went to the bar to order a pool side margarita, which was delicious. Only complaint there was the bartender overlooked us, helped customers who arrived after us, and it wasnt until a customer who arrived after said we were there first were we helped. After the pool we called the front desk to make a reservation for The Grand Steakhouse. BEST CHOICE btw for dinner. The front desk sent someone out to pick us up and they had our table ready. Our server was Emily I believe and she was very hospitable, had a very calm voice, and was very wise about what she was selling. The filet minion with crab meat on top was amazing. We continued our night in a hammock and walked the bay. We ordered room service and the french toast was amazing HOWEVER we also ordered the continental breakfast which was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. They gave us 2 mini muffins, a mini bear claw, a small crescent, very pulpy orange juice and a pot of coffee. Please save your money.. it isnt worth it... however the manager of the restaurant is working on making it right. We also visited the spa and everyone there was beyond friendly, Sandra did an amazing job on the eyebrows, and it was very peaceful. I literally can not wait to go back and enjoy this hotel again and again!

We go to the Grand every year for our anniversary. This year was not the best experience. The room was right next to the stairs & lobby so you could hear everything. Our room was also very small compared to the other rooms weve stayed in. For the price it was NOT worth it. Once we were settled in our room we went to Buckys for drinks and had a hard time getting a server. They were busy so we didnt worry about it too much. After drinks we walked around the property. Very beautiful place, even with the construction and jackhammering. After our walk we went back up to our room to getting ready for dinner. We decided to go back to Buckys for dinner since its reasonably priced. We sat for 15 minutes before a server approached our table. We watched them stand around and talk and sit on buckets in the kitchen/server area. Keep in mind they were not busy at all! I told my husband if we didnt get a server soon I would leave. Finally, after the server finished his conversation, he approached our table to take our order. Drinks and dinner arrived very quickly and then we didnt see our server again until our meal was almost gone. We sat there with empty drinks, while he continued to talk to other coworkers in the kitchen. The only reason we got a refill was because another guest almost walked into the server area to get someones attention. He ran out to take their order and asked us if we would like anything else. We replied....a refill would be nice! As much as we pay to stay at this hotel I expect great service. They really need to reevaluate the service staff in the bar. We decided we will not be coming back next year.
