Overbearing music and way too dark. I understand restaurants are often darker to stimulate appetite and naturally calm patrons, but I needed a flashlight to read my menu. That aint right. My buddy, the birthday boy, ordered an Australian Wagyu steak, medium rare. The meat was clearly delivered medium well, except for about 3-4 bites in the center. When we inquired with the service about this, they indicated it was "natural" for the grill to sear the ends of the meat more than the center, as it was a high-temp charcoal grill. A quick glance to another patron at our table with a truly medium-rare steak, cooked to perfection, revealed the servers excuse was just that: an excuse. So much for "Second Best Beef in the World" if your chef isnt going to cook it correctly. The server, very placating at this point, arranged for the manager to visit. The manager confiscated the steak and took it to the back to inquire with the chef. He reported the same thing: the $86 steak was cooked properly, and my buddy was wrong. He asked if there was anything else he could make for my friend, but regretted that the chef would not be preparing another steak because my buddy clearly didnt know how steak was cooked, brown shoe-leather on Wagyu beef is awesome, and totally medium-rare. It was, however, removed from our bill. Tell me, what else is there good to eat at a steakhouse except... steak? Wine was excellent. Be aware, your two choices for water at dinner are Spring and Sparkling. Both will run you seven dollars a bottle - a charge not listed anywhere on the menu, or informed at time of ordering. Our table went through several, and had to suck it up. After all, we drank them without complaint. My food arrived promptly, the other patrons at my table waited about 5-10 minutes extra (a huge faux-pas, that even Longhorn manages to avoid), and the gentlemen at the end of the table, three of which ordered lamb at different serving temperatures, were forced to guess incorrectly whose belonged to who, as the service did not inform us which was medium-rare or medium. Just what we didnt order, delicious! All in all, we had one passable experience with Vines last year, but this years experience was worth writing the Better Business Bureau. Avoid if you wish to actually hear your fellow dinner guests, and do not wish to be berated by the management for demanding what you ordered be correct - At Vines pricing, it had well better be.

I have been to Vines many times for drinks and the live music. Each time it has been great with wonderful service. This time I took my girlfriend on Jan 31 for her birthday. She loves Vines as well. We were a party of 5. Her parents and her brother came along as well. As soon as we walked in the hostess greeted us with a very unenthusiastic face. Didnt say hello and just waited for us to talk. So naturally I immediately decided to just look around the bar area for a high top table that would accommodate us instead of just wait for her to offer something. Found one towards the back area near the side exit. We sat and waited a little while until we were approached by a server who did not offer a single hello or welcome. Simply asked if anyone has taken our drink order. We said no not yet. Without a word she turned around and walked away. She came a little later with a drink menu. We wanted to eat dinner but by this point we were just so disappointed that we paid for one round of drinks and asked for the check. The server came by and again without a single word dropped the check off on the table and walked away. Not a single thank you for coming by or anything. It was great seeing how enthusiastic she was with other guests around us. We paid cash, left it on the table, and walked next door to the seafood restaurant where we had an amazing birthday dinner with over the top service from the moment we walked in the door. Definitely not returning to Vines after ruining what was supposed to be a great birthday dinner. We were definitely not welcomed there and it was clear from the moment we walked through the door.

Jessie the bar tender is absolutely the BEST! I told him I wanted to start off with my first drink as non-alcoholic, something refreshing maybe with some cucumbers. He immediately went to work with passion and showmanship. He muddled (and with serious zeal) cucumber and some leafy herbs and added soda water and simple syrup and muddled some more! Then added water and shaked it like crazy. He strained and added a stream of soda water & garnished with a mint sprig! Seriously! And he just put so much care into it, presented it with a smile and everybody next to me was mesmerized. Not just the way he made the drink but how he seemed to genuinely care about the experience. The guy next to me had to buy it for me because he was TOTALLY impressed. Jessie is Bartender King of Sandlake resturant row. Period. He evoked a really nice vibe at that bar! He told us how his dad taught him to do your absolute best at whatever you happen to be doing, if its your career of choice or just a stepping stone. You can see his deep focus of quality bartending and customer service. I have never left a bar where the bartender created such an interactive and loving karma. There were 8 or so people from different countries and walks of life but we left feeling like comrades because Jessie made us all feel like we were family! After that drink he made me a gin martini with fresh berries YUM! Vines is now tops on my list on Sandlake row. Thanks Jessie!

I usually skip to write any comments after visiting places, however I will take the time and write my experience here, very meaningful. Sometimes you just want a glass of WINE you know?, you dont really want to buy a bottle at the grocery shop, you dont want to call your friend and set up a hole going out type of thing, you simply just want to go out (maybe alone), have a drink or two, and call it a night. I picked up this place from google search and I have to say, didnt expect such a LOVELY place out a night of unexpected, as I walked I knew I was in a very unique spot, called Vines, great music, it has this rustic but classic feel to it, clean and very ELEGANT, I found out they even play Jazz everyday, yet very suitable for anyone who wants to get out and have a WINE moment. Cody was the bartender, she was very attentive and professional, the right amount of service makes a huge difference, and you can tell she cares about her customers and preserve the image of this place. The place was surprisingly empty, even the Bar Manager Maria came up to say hi and had a chat with me, just to make sure things were going ok and to create an experience and memorable visit. Props to Vines for giving me such a memorable visit. Would recommend to anyone who wants to eat or drink.

As a supplier to commercial kitchens/restaurants in various parts of the industrialized world, I have the great fortune of dining at some very unique multicultural restaurants. One may suggest (over the years) my palate has been well educated, and reached a certain level of sophistication in appreciation (of any type ) of a well prepared meal. During a recent business trip to Orlando, FL. one of my colleagues very graciously invited me to dinner at Vines Bar & Grill...long story short, I was very impressed with the quality and exquisite taste of every plate ( fish, seafood, various meats dishes) my colleague insisted I sample, just to see if she could impress my pompous (ass) taste buds, lol !. I couldnt stop thanking her for inviting me to dinner at this gem of a spot, that I will certainly revisit whenever I"m back in O-town. Btw... the service and ambiance are an added bonus to the dining experience...my friend took the check, so I cant comment on the price range, nonetheless, I can say its worth the cost. Cheers to everyone who enjoys fine dining!
