I really want to love this place because the staff was so friendly and accommodating, but there were too many negatives. Very nice ambiance, but then a bus boy (man) comes out in jeans, plaid shirt, and a baseball cap to clear the tables. You have cloth napkins and tablecloths, fancy place settings, and classy atmosphere...then he comes out and you expect beer bottles and sawdust or peanut shells on the floor. There were little tealights on the tables, but no one came out to light them when the sun went down. We found out why when we tried to light our...no wax! While we enjoy a leisurely meal, it was 3 plus hours from seating to paying the check. They ran out of everything early on. We wanted the steamers for an appetizer and were forced to settle for shrimp cocktail. The shrimp had some strange taste to them, as if they were prepped for another recipe and were pulled at the last minute for the shrimp cocktail. They were a little orange, weird tasting, and small. Very disappointing. The salad was very small, but at least it tasted good and the greens were fresh. We ordered the prime rib, but they were out. We then ordered the filet mignon, but they were out. We were forced to choose between chicken, crab cake, and pork. The pork was one of the specials, and the waitress and restaurant manager went on and on about it, so we thought we should give it a try. BIG MISTAKE. The frangelica sauce was good, but the pork was overcooked, dry, and tough. Well, we really came for the music anyway. That was an extra $20 on top of the dinner, but we were looking forward to some jazz music in an area where jazz is hard to come by. Greg Hatza ORGANization was the band. I really wanted to like them. I didnt want to say anything to my husband because the rest of the night sucked and I thought maybe it was just me, but discussing it toward the end of the performance we both had the same opinion. They were capable musicians, but their playing left you feeling like there was something missing. It was loud--too loud--and very energetic, but it didnt make you feel anything. A few ballads would have been good, too. The ballad they DID play was too fast and way too loud. All in all, not a great night out. I really, really liked the ambiance and the staff was very friendly, though the waitress was not at all attentive. She was nice and friendly, but seemed to keep forgetting about us, though she really didnt have a tremendous amount to of tables. There was a young waiter there also and he seemed very capable a dog professional. I had heard that the place recently reopened with new owners and a new name, so I will definitely be back to give it another try. Maybe they just need to get her bugs out (oops, no pun intended!). I will come back and post an update when I go back again.
