A more natural county park on the San Jacinto River just below the Lake Houston spillway. The park offers miles of nature trails and has one playground situated near the only restroom in the park. Other restrooms in the park consist of portable Johns. The pond is stocked every January with up to 5,000 rainbow trout which are soon fished out by February even earlier. River access points offer great catfishing though if bass fishing with lures you may find the spots on the bank dont provide much room for casting. Cast in a Carolina rig hook up a bell and sit bag with a good book or magazine - youre likely to catch something. Lots of underwater obstructions like fallen trees and roots can claim your hooks and lures. There are even crabs in the river. If you are thawing out frozen liver or shrimp bait in the river they will often approach to snack on what they can. There are alligators seen occasionally in the river section and ponds of the park. They keep to themselves but keep an eye out at the river as larger gators occasionally patrol the Big Eddy from the gap that connects to the river. Kayaks can even be launched from the south parking lot on the river. Its about 100 yards downhill portage to the river from the Big Eddy parking lot. Portions of the park or sometimes all of it may close with heavy rains. Not popular with bikers, but many mobs of spandex clad cyclists may descend upon the park on weekends.

This place has some decent trails and I actually saw my first black with red stripes grasshopper. I loved the sounds of the different birds I heard while walking through the trails. There are a lot of road walks and powerline trails and the observation point is actually a dead end into a small mud puddle. The place has plenty of portapottys but no toilet paper. They also have lots of trash cans which is nice if people would actually use them. The cops wont do anything about people letting their dogs run around without a leash even after they attack your dogs so I wouldnt recommend bringing your pets with you. This place may be better through the week but definitely dont go here on the weekend looking for solitude. There are also a lot of roots on the trails so watch your footing, 3 out of 5 of us tripped. Saw a lot of bikers out so this park maybe better suited for that.

It is a good park for trail walking, the trails are not paved or gravel so it helps you feel like youre connected to the nature a little more than many other parks in the area. They have a covered playground which is nice and a permanent restroom located right next to it. The only downside I have found is the 3.2 Mile Trail goes mostly along power lines. Who wants to walk along power lines I dont know but I sure dont.

A very nice park. Great for fishing, kayaking, biking, hiking or bird watching. There is also a park for the kids. The only things I dont like about it is 1) they could use some signs pointing to the exits and to the river 2) there is always so much trash...at least near the river. Lots of fishing line, hooks, beer cans, etc. Ive gone to the park a couple of times just to clean up trash!

I love fishing in the ponds here. The only reason I didnt rate it 5 stars is all the trash that people leave near the shore or in the picnic areas. I like to bring an extra bag to pack out others trash...there really are alligators in the ponds. Nice fish too!

Ive been there many of times. I grew up going there love it. But they need to expand the fishing area. It gets to crowded in these areas. If they would expand more areas people could fish more comfortable. Just hope to see that happen soon.

I did not enjoy the long trail that much.. half of it was along side the transmission lines. Maybe the other shorter trails are nice ... People should pick up after themselves !
