My wife and I stumbled upon the Harp while on vacation this week. Now understand that I have been searching for the perfect Reuben for a long time now. Search is over. The key ingredient here is the corned beef. Everywhere else I have been (and I have tried a mountain of Reubens) has tasted like it was frozen or otherwise processed/packaged for an undisclosed amount of time before being subjected to life in a sandwich. Not here. The flavor was bold and crisp, the bread was a great marble rye, and the kraut was a winner too. Now I realize that the Reuben isnt a true Irish sandwich, but it is on the menu in most pubs and usually a matter of pride when you ask how good it is in a lot of establishments bearing anything Irish. Either way, this one is the best. Now, my wife had the Shepards Pie, and she said it was excellent. And indeed it was, and the portion size was perfect. The service was great. and the prices were very fair. Ive paid twice the price for inferior food in other restaurants in the past. For dessert, I was surprised by my wife and the staff with a slice of cheesecake for my birthday. Another winner. Bottom line, if we lived in Wilmington, we would be regulars here. In fact, I think Id like future vacations to revolve coming to The Harp.

Well when we pulled up at the place earlier today, 9/7/15 around 2:00 p.m. They were open and serving other guests at the bar. My girlfriend and I sat down at a small table near the bar. The bar was full at the moment, so the bartender did not really notice us come in. I suppose if the waitress in the dining room was not playing games on her phone she would have noticed us. She was not tending to customers like she was supposed to be, even though it was just us and a father and his son that were finishing their meal. Its not like they were really busy. After sitting there for around 10 minutes waiting for a waitress, who never showed, we left to go get something to eat somewhere else. This was my first impression and it was not a very good one. I dont recommend this place to anyone that is thinking about going. Kind of a bummer, because I really wanted to try their pot pie.

As far as Irish Pubs go, this one is legit. Its Irish owned and even has some quirkiness that you find in similar establishments in larger metros or even abroad. The fare is simple and filling. The ingredients are top notch-best quality. When crowded, the wait time can be a little longer, but usually there is some entertainment to keep you occupied. Overall, this is a fine establishment and a fun place to eat and drink. I find myself here for breakfast, lunch, or after-work drinks often.Weekend buffet breakfast is always a fun time too. Its also the first bar to open each day in Wilmington and shows international Rugby and Soccer matches which are sometimes played live at odd hours in the US., so its good to have a place that offers an Irish Breakfast and a Guinness Pint at 6am... Cheers!

I had a horrible terrible dismissive outrageously disappointing experience on a Christmas day on this place. There were three of us with reservation for 4 oclock. We got there a little early. Ok. No one acknowledged us when we came. We had to block the entrance of one of the waitress to get her attention. Then another waitress said that our table was occupied. There were 8 available tables. OK again. We were waiting. A group of 4 came 10 min after us and were seated rightaway. What a disgrace. And on the food side of the story, it was buffet style with grey looking meat and soggy greens. Happy Christmas to you all. We chose to go hungry. It was the better choice.

We got take out last weekend and when they bagged the order, they left out all utensils including napkins. We were at a place where we did not have access to forks/knives and its difficult to eat a salad with your hands. When I called and complained they asked us to drive back to the restaurant to get them, and also asked us why the person picking up the order didnt ask for them. Ive worked in the industry for many years and it should be understood that if someone orders take out, they should automatically receive the necessary items to eat the food. In my opinion, they shouldve been willing to discount and/or deliver the utensils to us. Will not be eating here again!

I moved to Wilmington a few months ago, and The Harp has always felt like home! Great place, fantastic atmosphere, wonderful staff, and amazing food! In my experience the food is fresh and locally-sourced, the classic Irish standards mixed with a modern perspective. Great beers on tap, and after extensive testing around town I can tell you that they have the only properly-poured pint of Guinness in all of Wilmington! Its a little off the beaten path of downtown, but the neighborhood is quickly becoming one of Wilmingtons best kept secrets. Come down to The Harp, try it out, introduce yourself to the staff, and I promise you will have found your new home away from home.

We were at Harp last Sunday for Breakfast, which by the way has always been great. That day the band was so laud no one could hear themselves have a conversation (that kind of music is bar music for night time folks) Before we were seated the waitress tried to tell them to calm it down, also our waitress did the same, but they refused. Other waitresses were upset, but to no avail. Called to speak to Val (owner) he never called back. Guess he thinks his business is run by the band. Will not suggest to anyone to visit this restaurant. Too bad too sad. Rating 0

This is a wonderful unpretentious place to get a great pour on a Guinness. My friend always orders the shepherds pie and fried mushrooms. I had the mussels, about 16 of them with bread and asked for a large plate of fries. The fries are made from scratch and I was given a generous amount. The waitress was sweet and took good care of us. It was too warm to sit outside but looked nice and live entertainment was getting ready to begin around 9 pm. Seat yourself tables and a separated bar area. Bathroom was for one, large and clean. Im sure Ill go back again.

The Harp is easily one of the best authentic restaurants in Wilmington with some dishes and beers that you cant get anywhere else in town. The food is very tasty and reasonably priced and the cozy atmosphere is perfect for a dinner with family or friends. Ive had a great time all 4 or 5 times I went so far and I definitely plan on coming back for some more Beef braised in Guinness and a pint of Murphys!

The Harp is one of my very favorite places in Wilmington! Ive been a regular for years and know all of the wonderful people who make this place awesome. It is family owned and I usually get to see at least one of these great people when Im there. I highly recommend the food, drinks and fun!! The buffet on Sundays shouldnt be missed! Ms. Betsys handmade sweets are the icing on the cake.
