I was a bit hesitant after reading some of the older reviews, we played 10/19/13 and enjoyed a quality round. We teed at 2:30pm on a cloudy day, the course was full but not over crowded. Our threesome finished in about 4 1/2 hrs which surprised us. Im a 12 handicap and the blue tees seemed a bit short compared to the blues at our home club at Falls Village so I tried the Blacks which are rated 72/132 6,600 yds and found it to be a suitable challenge requiring fades and draws off the tee to keep it between tree lined fairways. Pros : Very scenic course with well manicured fairways and lots of mature oaks bordering fairways. Dwarf Bermuda greens were firm and true, bring your ProV1s if you want your approach to stick these greens! Lots of water features but if you play your yardages we thought the holes were fair and well laid out. Good risk/reward shots. You can play a variety of clubs off the tee, you might want to brush up on the 3 wood. Beach White Sand Bunkers! We thought the comments about poor condition were out dated. The course had been over seeded with winter rye, the bunkers properly raked, and staff was very friendly. I would be remiss not to point out a very nice range facility with chipping green and bunker. Cons - Fairways were a bit soft in spots but I didnt think this took away anything from this Triangle gem. Great golf value, we will definitely try this one again. fm

My dad was visiting from out of state and was looking so forward to golfing. He reserved his spot online. Unfortunately he chose Lochmere. When he arrived, he was told it was cart path only, even though the course was bone dry. My dad has bad ankles but is fine if he can walk on the grass, just not on the concrete path. He asked if he could have a placard so he could at least go 90 degrees and they said no. Who treats people this way? So he asked for a refund and they wouldnt refund him either. What kind of service is that? He thought he would try to make the best of it, even though the people were so rude. When he got to the course, the Starter was at least nice and said he would call the office for a placard. They told the Starter ok but when my dad walked back to the office to get it, they still wouldnt give it to him! He was treated so rudely and with complete disrespect. Because my dad would never break the rules, he walked way more than he should have until the pain flaired up and had to stop early. I have no idea who they think they are at Lochmere but the fairways are terrible, with hardly any grass, and the staff has no compassion. Never again. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.

This place has seriously gone downhill over the last 2-3 years. The greens are the WORST in the triangle, by and far. The fairways always need work. The cart paths are bumpy beyond belief where they refuse to re-pave them because tree roots have broken them. Ive been playing here for years because of the close proximity to downtown/Cary and its a quick stop after work. Having played here almost 100 times, its a really easy layout and there is nothing special. No hills. Yes, theres water, but it doesnt come into play very much (no large carries over par-3s etc). Its just a flat piece of land with some trees lining the fairway, with a pathetic excuse for a "green". If youre paying over $20 to play here, youve paying too much.

Played here for the first time this weekend. Actually played twice, Saturday and Sunday. Starter told us of all the horror stories of years past, nicknamed "Swampmere". There is no such issue. We played in the rain Saturday and NO WATER/DRAINAGE issues, fairways or greens. Nice layout. Will it challenge a scratch golfer? Maybe not. But for most of weekend players it is great. And if they keep up the work it will improve with time.

Ready to join. Played 4/4/14 The new greens arent growing yet but roll very true - and the new bunkers are great. Lots of fun around the greeens today. It is far from luxurious but its a good test of golf w/ the tight fairways and varying tee distances and when the Bermuda grows in it should be well worth the $$. Best part is you can leave the $400 driver in the bag! :)

Course has come a long way since I moved here 6 years ago. Greens totally redone and are true. They seemed to fix the majority of the drainage problems...not nearly as bad as it was. Can still get wet in a few areas after rain (what course cant?), but overall, its much, much improved. If you havent played here in years, Id recommend you give it another try.

Grew up playing there when the greens struggled but now with the new bermuda greens it is a fantastic course with a awesome layout. lots of work being done on the course to make it even better and will be a great test for anyone whose looking for a fun or serious round. Also the staff is tremendous and are always there to help and answer questions.

This place is pretty much a goat track, with fairways and greens that always need work. That said, I still play here from time to time because you can get on occasionally for $20 or so (through lastminutegolfer) and for that price, its a fair deal. Tons of water--bring lots of balls unless you are very accurate with your iron play.

Fun course. Shorter than most courses lets you keep the driver in the bag for most par 4s or use it and go for it all. Rates are pretty fair, in my opinion and the staff seems nice. It does tend to be crowded most of the time with regulars and the ranger would like to pair you with others if not a 3 person party

I quit playing here 5 years ago because the only thing worse than the course was the staff. Reluctantly, I played Lochmere recently because a friend wanted to try it out. Man, what a difference new ownership/management has made! The course has been totally redone. Looks and plays great!

Staff is disrespectful. Tried to give me tokens for two small buckets for $11 each and not the large buckets. Practice Tees are in poor shape. We moved over to Knights Play in Apex and have had much more fun and saved quite a bit of money at the same time.

They offer a fun round of golf for the novice, not a challenging course at all. Staff was friendly. Fairways were in decent shape, the greens really need a lot of work though. All in all Ill go back if the price is right.

New greens, beautiful winding layout, a fair test of golf, used every club in my bag... 5 sets of tees for all skill levels and the cart guy is Scottish! Can you ask for anything more? I booked on golf now... GO PLAY!
