“Joli travail de restauration !” Situé en fin de parcours lorsque vous faites la visite complète du site, la visite y est obligatoire de part la richesse du musée et de la canonnière en exposition bien à labri des intempéries. Entrée gratuite bien sûr, pas mal dobjets en vitrine provenant du bateau permettant de mieux comprendre la vie à bord. Bon travail de restauration, site que je recommande vivement.

Visiting the USS Cairo is a must-do if youre in the Vicksburg area...especially if youre visiting the Vicksburg National Military Park nearby. Were pleasantly surprised visiting the USS Cairo. It was the best part of our visit to Vicksburg. We had no idea that there are any of the ironclads that are still in existence much less be able to get in and walk through the skeleton of what is left of it. The size and scope of the USS Cairo was amazing and very impressive. The museum itself was fascinating as we learned from the artifacts that had been recovered little bit about life on the USS Cairo if you were a crew member.

The main attraction is the USS Cairo itself - wonderfully preserved and surrounded by informational placards. Guests are able to walk aboard a restored portion of the vessel to get a more personal look. The adjacent museum is full of additional artifacts found around the wreck, as well as information about the Cairos discovery and raising. Amenities include AC (much needed by this visitor in the Mississippi heat), water fountains that run cold water, and clean, comfortable restrooms. Theres also a gift shop if you are so inclined.

This was a unique experience. Not only can you look at a Civil War ship, you can walk inside it (or, whats left of it). The inside of the museum holds all manner of unique items that were found on the ship after it was recovered. Each item is labeled so you know exactly what youre looking at. If youre visiting Vicksburg Military Park, plan on stopping here. You cant miss it. We hadnt planned on visiting because we didnt realize how close it was to Vicksburg, but it ended up being my favorite stop of the day!

Wonderful reconstruction of iron clad warship with original wood and structure in place. Explanations of mechanical systems with original parts exposed. You can walk onto the ship as well as around it. Small museum with samples of clothing, weapons, shoes, nautical bits, personal items from ship. Easy to visit in 15-30 minutes. Dont miss this. You can bail on the 16 mile drive before this museum but youd really miss something special. Very kid friendly and clean restrooms along with small gift shop.

If nothing else, the sheer size of the ship is impressive. So much of it was preserved by the mud that you can see details of the forgings. The artifacts in the museum are enlightening as you see the details of the personal possessions used be the crew. I was amazed at the variety of cannon used on a single ship, which would have complicated supply. Well worth a stop if you are in the area.

LUSS Cairo qui est beau en conservé permet de se donner idée des navires de combat de la guerre de Sécession. Le musée montre des objets retrouvés dans le navire coulé.

Very nice and interesting. Really appreciate the way they preserved and rebuilt the surviving parts, without rebuilding what was lost. Great to see something which is last of its kind. Nice display of items in the museum and gift shop. Good place to take a break and cool off, when its hot and humid.

Its an amazing story of the making of this vessel and the rebirth of it. If you are even the least bit interested in history, this is a must see. Dont miss the exhibit inside the museum to see what was in the boat when they pulled it out of the river.

It is a wonderful place to visit but make sure you have the time to stop and check out the musem. One day I would like to go back there and check and see if any of my family is there and if they fought for the north or the south in the battle of Vicksburgs

Impressive reconstruction of the Ironclad. The exposed engineering design is quite amazing considering you are looking at something made over 150 years ago. Sign says 7 were made at a cost of about 110K each. Took 100 days to make them.

I was very amazed and saddened by this location. It was truly an eye opener to see all the unmarked burials of these soldiers. We should be truly honored to know so many respected working men fought and died for their country.

Amazing location. The reconstruction and preservation of the ironclad is well done and adds to the grandness of this vessel. I never really understood the size and scale of an ironclad until visiting the USS Cairo.

This place is amazing if you love history. They have restored the salvaged the river ironclad and allow you to walk out into the ship. You get a good sense of how big and formidable these things really were.

Hard to believe that this ship was raised from the Civil War! If you love history and if you love information about the Civil War the entire park is a fantastic place to go and you have to see the USS Cairo.

It hosts a recovered Union Ironside, sunk during the civil war in a nearby river. The museum is free with park admission and features items recovered with the boat. Interesting in a historical context.

Really cool civil war ironclad ship and museum. Ive learned about them before on school but never have seen one in person. Very awe inspiring and very high tech for its day.
