State Theater, please stop permitting legends to perform at your venue who are so past their prime that they cant remember where they are or require oxygen tanks and medical help numerous times while on stage. Im specifically referring to BB King who I saw just a few years ago (maybe 2013) at the State Theater. He didnt know where he was, couldnt play his songs, at one point was babbling on confused from dementia and he thought he was having a private and apologetic conversation with his grand daughter. His best song of the night was "This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is Our Land...", not a blues song at all. Im specifically referring to Gordon Lightfoot who is booked for early October 2016. Im a long time fan but now when I see that a performance is booked at the State Theater I am way more hesitant to buy tickets since the BB King debacle. So I looked up a recent performance of his on YouTube and confirmed through Ticket Master reviews. Hes had to have oxygen brought out to him numerous time on stage because he cant breathe and so the audience can barely hear the words he sings so softly during his songs. Hes winded and frail and shouldnt be on stage performing. His back up band is doing all the work. Reviews say people are walking out of his concerts early from such disappointment. The thing is, we trust the venue or we dont trust the venue to do right by the artists and by the consumers. We blame you for selling us tickets to performers who should be on stage. We trust or dont trust your evaluation of the types of performers and - performances - you want a reputation for. Do you really want to be the venue in the Twin Cities for washed up performers who because of their legendary past you can scam ticket sales from older fans? Do you want to be the theater for geriatrics? The theater for retired old geezers? Cmon State Theater. Change your ways or your theaters ticket sales are going to dry up. Stop taking advantage of these historic performers and their fans. Do the right thing! Let them be remembered respectfully. Honor their memory by supporting their dignity in the present. These performers shouldnt be treated like puppets for your profiteering.

We were just there last night to see Steve Winwood. Great sound, beautiful venue, very helpful staff. We love the State Theater and will continue to come back again and again! I want to especially thank the ushers and security guards who helped out our section, because there were two very loud, obnoxious, drunk women who wouldnt stop talking and laughing during the opening act. They were even louder than the music, and they became belligerent when asked to stop. They were calling the people around them names, and dumped beer on the guy in front of them. Thanks to the quick and professional assistance of the staff, the two women ended up being escorted out and the rest of the show was awesome. Having a few drinks is one thing; ruining the show for two entire rows of patrons is quite another. Thank you, State Theater, for stepping in quickly and ensuring that the main performance was a great experience for everyone else there!

Beautiful glowing decor inside, helpful ushers & patient bartenders, security gets you through the doors quickly & efficiently. Only missing 1 star because they only offer tiny can juice, gun soda & bottled water, but wish they had more offerings for n/a beverages, even if only energy drinks & bottled flavored ice tea or gatorade for those of us who have been awake since 5am, had salty dinner and/or dont want alcohol. And the sound could be better, it was to quiet, as if the ceiling to floor hanging speakers hadnt been turned on. Easily find parking at the flat pay lots within a block, and plenty of places for cocktails & eats before and after the show, also in walking distance.

Great acoustics, breathtaking architecture, decent sight-lines, and its an incredibly historical venue with a warm atmosphere. However, something needs to be done about the ridiculously overpriced beverages (a mixed drink, a single pour of Jim Beam, and a can of Stella cost $33; cans of Surly Furious cost more here than at US Bank Stadium) and the incredibly disrespectful staff. It felt more like a high school assembly than a rock concert (Band of Horses 11/12/16) with the usher assigned to our section sprinting up and down the aisles to tell attendees to stop using their cell phones or to sit down, which was distracting and a huge detriment to the evening. The band was great, though.

The State Theatre is an excellent venue that brings a variety of events. Even the upper balcony seats provide a quality experience of just about any show. This is a venue everyone should visit at least once. The only complaint is the seats are kind of small. Luckily, the last show I went to here wasnt sold out, so we just moved to a less-crowded section.

State is a great facility for concerts and music in general. It is very open, and the audience seats are all very close together, but the theater still has its old-fashioned charm even while connected to more contemporary buildings.

Love the State for concerts, stand up, or any performance. Classic architecture, comfortable, good site lines...like any venue, they rob you for drink prices. The theater is a must visit venue in the Minneapolis theater district.

We saw Sebastian Maniscalco here and loved it. This is an old time theatre with incredible workmanship and murals that they just dont build anymore. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and the theatre is beautiful.

I love this venue but they desperately need to make some adjustments to where the bare is located in the main lobby. Creates a bottleneck at the doorway. Otherwise they bring great performers here.

Absolute gem. That Minneapolis was able to keep and restore this beautiful venue is such a wonderful thing. Seats are comfortable enough and I dont think there is a bad viewing location anywhere.

Great performance space, although the lobby leaves a lot to be desired - especially in the winter. Single entrance doors, big bar in the middle can make for a long chilly wait.

Beautiful venue that hosts world-class events. The decor reflects its vaudeville history -- complete with beautiful chandeliers and ornate walls.

Went here for a Bo Burnham show which, despite him making fun of the golden babies, was only benefitted by the theaters classic interior.

This was a birthday present for my grandson. We are Paw Patrol fans. I loved the look on his face. The best family time ever.

A beautiful old theater with excellent site lines. My only complaint would be that the seat padding is getting a little old.

Best intimate venue around. Reminds me of the Paramount in Austin MN. Cant wait for Kristofferson. Welcome back Kris.

There have been so many great performances here, and the non-entertainment staff are always polite and professional.
