My family and I have been going here since the course first opened way back in the day. We normally love it because its fairly affordable, usually not too crowded, and a great casual atmosphere for beginning golfers. This year however, weve had numerous bad experiences with one of the course managers, a portly middle-aged man with longer, grey hair. The manager has consistently given us a hard time when hes had no business in doing so. He claimed that we needed to "speed up play" because "golfers were piling up behind us." This was in spite of the fact that there was only one group behind us, an entire hole back, and that we had already let a couple of the singles/doubles players behind us play through as needed. He also rudely confronted us about having our 11-year-old cousin on the course without her own bag, even though she was sharing a bag with one of us. Again, this in spite of the fact that we had already paid for her to play and ride in the cart, and that the other workers there took no objection in it. The very nice woman working the front desk allowed us to rent a bag for free since we had already paid for everything with the understanding that my cousin would be fine in playing. On numerous other occasions hes just been downright rude and unfriendly, bad mouthing the "idiots who leave their putters on the green." This is even more disappointing considering the other course manager weve run into, an older gentleman with white hair, is extremely nice and welcoming. If it werent for this seemingly vindictive man (whom we, sadly, didnt get the name of), we would continue to bring our business here. However, because of how much of a hassle he has been all summer, well be taking our future business to some of the nearby (and cheaper) courses in the area.

This is a nicely kept, short and compact, 10-hole park district course. Yes, 10 holes. The "first" hole (1A) is a tight practice hole, just to loosen up a bit and get a feel for the greens each day: nice touch. There is a mixture of wide open holes (such as the 8th and 9th) and tight holes (such as 3 and 7). [In fact, 3 and 7 are placed side by side in only 85 feet of space between the back fence of the 250-yard driving range, and the back property fence!] Water seems to be everywhere, with a drainage creek running through most of the course and connecting 3 sizable ponds. There are forced carries on 3 holes. Water also enters into the picture on 3 additional holes, but if you are a decent shotmaker, you can stay high and dry. The greens are deceptively small, with the long, undulating 5th green and the wide and shallow 9th green being the exceptions. The driving range has both mat and grass tees, and there is a large, well-kept, 18 hole practice green along with a practice bunker to round out your practice sessions. In addition to a basic line of golf supplies, the clubhouse features the "Ala Cart Family Diner" (get it? golf cart?) where you can get a nicely dressed 1/3# burger platter for under $5 and other grill specialties similarly reasonably priced. Base price for a round is $12, although there are Senior, Twilight and Bulk deals available.

First time playing Sq Links GC, August 27th. Very helpful staff. Golf Carts are clean and run well. Club house is clean and maintained. Golf course is a very nice layout with water features, sand, hazards. Fairways are well maintained with collars and short rough. Greens are ample well cut. Collars around greens and fd short rough. Greens today were alittle slow but smooth and true. Practice arrears for chipping and putting. Ywo ranges One for turf practice, a 2nd for hitting off mats. Excellent short course for beginners, youngsters, couples, and anyone who wants to tune up their game on short course. Very pleased overall. Will return often.
