Havent been there for food or coffee in a long time, but the music scene in Dekalb (and the greater Chicago area) is richer for the shows Kickstand Productions puts on at the House. In the past couple of years, Ive seen King Kong, Mono, High on Fire (!), and enough local and touring bands to restore my faith in rock. Its a cozy little atmosphere thats perfectly suited for getting your mind blown. Prices are right, parking is ample, and its not as far as you think.

Best beer selection out of all the restaurants and bars in Dekalb (size is not everything). Great home-cooked food (though it takes some time). Great eastern/hippie motif. My only criticism is that the shows performed there can have sound issues, namely too loud. I watched a show there last night, and I went to bed with my ears ringing. Its more than a coffee shop/ band venue, its a neighborhood cornerstone. Its got character. Its personal, truly unique.

Coffee, delish healthy eats, music on most nights of the week. Something for everyone, no matter age or interests. Open mic, blues, swing-dancing, hip-hop parties, jams, DJs and fashion shows are just a few things they do. Beer and wine are served responsibly. Safe place for minors to go without parents, they card for alcohol and keep kids safe! Fun environment Best spot in DeKalb!

Amazing live music, unique food, and a relaxing vibe: what could be better? Theres some great bands who play there, and the range of music is extremely wide spanning from jazz trios to screaming metal bands. After playing there with my band, I was very impressed with the sound, definitely one of the best venues in the area. Love the flatbread pizza too

I love how they offer gluten free options! You cant really walk into a restaurant or a place to eat anymore that has gluten free options! Their gluten free bagels are amazing! Overall, just an amazing place to go if you need to study and a late night study session this is the place to go! I love this place so much!

Great atmosphere with live entertainment, and awesome service. The new owner is a really cool guy who doesnt mind chatting with his customers. Crowds attracted to this place are usually all just really nice open minded people. The tasty sandwiches and snacks are definitely a big plus as well.

I went there to see my friend Dannys band, The Great Divide. It was a nice place to see a concert and just hang out. The people who ran the place were super friendly and the bands that played there were great. I just had a great time there in general.

I used to go here when I was younger, before I moved. Its an amazing local place to spend your time relaxing, the bands are very talented and the atmosphere is positive and easy going, if youre passing through, definitely make the time to stop in

I love the wraps for lunch. They are very good. The House Cafe has the best hummus around. Only thing is the inside of the place is horrid. Ugly, looks dirty, may appeal to some, but I prefer to order takeout.

This is perhaps the best underground music scene in the northern midwest. Open mics on Mondays are full on talent and are always packed. Great place to catch a show, beer, food or coffee!
