The Chopin Theatre basement is an intimate space, with real charm. While waiting for your show, feel free to peruse the eclectic library of the basement lounge, including travel guides and assorted biographies. The day of shows I saw here from the Hypocrites transformed the rough concrete walls of the basement, first into a tropical island and next into the circus trappings under the Big Top! Amenities of the Chopin Theatre include a small bar on site, both upstairs and down, along with the convenient location, just doors from Podhalanka to get your pierogie on, or the Division Blue when you need to get out of town fast.

This theater is a lot of fun. I won a membership for the House Theatre of Chicago at an auction so I was able to go see all the plays for a season. All plays, except for their magic show, were performed at the Chopin Theatre. They do original productions, and I can honestly say that they were all great! In fact I will be buying another membership for next season since it was a lot of fun. It is also very close to a Blue line CTA stop so it is very easy to get to the theatre. I highly recommend this place. It is a very fun place for a date night.

The Hypocrites take up the bottom floor here, which is more of a basement than a theater space but they somehow find a way to make it work in new and interesting ways. Get here early as there is a waiting room before entering the theater thats eclectic and a neat place to talk to people before the show, and also you can make sure you dont get stuck behind a pillar when they open the house. Bangers and lace is a short walk away from dinner before or after the show -- or Podhalanka a neat Polish restaurant is right next door.

Its a very interesting space for a theater ,and the theater companies (particularly the hypocrites) that make their home there try to find interesting ways to deal with the space. Some are more successful, and some are less. Next door is a pretty great Polish restaurant and the bar in the theater serves Polish beer. Bathrooms are cramped.

Ive seen two shows at this theater, and I enjoyed both tremoundously. One was very interactive and had an interesting way of using the space, and the other was cute, with great effects and acting. I would definatley see another.

Beautiful and intimate theater. The downstairs lounge is beyond warm and inviting. We saw The Nutcracker rendition by The House. Perfect evening.

Beautiful older small theatre, with a nice sized performance space on the main floor and a smaller space in the lower floor.

Favorite theater space in the city, and a revolving door for Chicagos best store front companies.
