Horrible customer service. Their website makes it seem like finding somewhere to park is easy. I arrived 25 minutes before the show I was seeing was supposed to start and after finding somewhere to park and walking 10 minutes back to this place I was 5 minutes late. Then when I went to get my tickets they go hmmm it looks like your tickets have already been printed and one of them has already been scanned? Really that sucks fix it. I asked if they checked Id before they give people the tickets they claim are theres and the girl assured me they do (even though she never once asked for mine all I had was my email print out). So I only need one ticket so the usher shows me to the door to the room and opens the door looks in then looks back out and goes theres someone in your seats. I tell him okay we know one of my tickets was scanned Ill take the other seat. He tells me there is someone in both seats. I ask him if he can tell them to move and he says no the show has already started and he cant cause a commotion. There was a seat in row N on the end I could have instead. My tickets were for row D.....that or they could refund my money. The website also said the show was 90 minutes. And the only parking in the area was 2 hour parking which I thought would be fine. The show was not 90 minutes. I had to leave early so my car wouldnt get towed/booted. I will never go to this place again. I enjoyed the show itself but this venue is the worst.

Its a cool, old theater. Smaller side and intimate, and I like that at least for the A.V. comedy fest, you could choose your own seats on the map through the ticketing system. Small bar, but it moves very fast despite the large crowds and has a good selection. My only major complaint is that after an hour or so the seats starts to feel really uncomfortable. Also, the theater is trying to raise some money for restoration through ticket fees but the event featured an unnecessary number of ushers (not sure if thats on them or the promoter), considering we all picked our own seats, but who were mysteriously absent when the dudes behind us wouldnt shut up throughout the entirety of a performance. Easy to park in the area, though, quick in and out of the building, sound was good enough for a comedy show.

Saw Jeff Mangum here, and couldnt have picked a better place. Sound and acoustics were great, and the place reminded me of a tinier version of the Chicago Theater. Would like to see more rock/indie shows there that fit the venue. Its seated and even in the balcony you dont feel too far, not like how you can in the Chicago theater or Lyric opera. Would definitely come back.

Comfortable Black Box Theatre. I saw Henry Moore is Melting performed there by Cold Basement Dramatics. It had stadium seating with good view providing just the right audience size. It looks nice from the outside, but the inside is nothing to be excited about as it is kind of bland. Good show space though.

The Athenaeum offers the old-school theatrical charm that the citys theatre district is known for. It produces some great home-grown favorites, as well as some quality out-of-town attractions. I would recommend it, hands-down, as a great place of entertainment and a communal space for arts collaboration.

I work the tech end of theater for the smaller companies in the studio spaces at the Athenaeum and this is one of the friendliest venues in the city for both patron and theater companies. The Athenaeum works hard to make it an amazing experience for everyone.

This place rocks. Within walking distance of good restaurants. A small venue where all the seats feel close to the stage. Easy parking at the church behind the building. Dont hesitate to get tickets here. Its been an enjoyable experience each time weve gone.

Old, small seats. The manager seems to loudly tell groups of people to keep it down because of other shows, but he never really stops being loud. #odd but shows are cheap here. They do try to force the crowds around to certain areas.

I sat in the front row for a show, but before it started I kept looking back at how beautiful the theatre is. The staff is friendly, they have jokes they make with patrons, and their general disposition is very welcoming.

The home of my first profession theater booking in Chicago was a great place to get involved. The building is beautiful, the stage was intimate without being cramped, and the support from staff was incredible.

Such a beautiful theatre. The lobby and ticketing area were clean and ornate. The seats are a bit old but still comfortable. We did not go up to the balcony but did love the small bar next to the lobby.

I went to see a play at this theatre with my cousin. It is an old quaint building with lots of stairs. There is an old-fashioned box office. There is even a bar which serves beer and wine.

Great place to practice; however, because of its age, it doesnt have central air conditioning in those areas. They do have window units, but in the hot summer they arent sufficient.

Came here to watch Rent on December 1st. I dont know if it was the sound engineer or the hall itself but I could not hear/understand anything. I had to leave during the intermission

A lot of history in this theatre. I have honestly not seen any performances in it but can tell just from walking through and around it that it has a lot of character.

Great old theater! Had the last seats at the top and still a good view. Also a really nice selection of shows -- and concessions. Well definitely be back.

Amazing theater. Great place to see a show. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The balcony is a bit steep, if thats a concern for you be aware.

Its a beautiful old theatre but the acoustics are bad, I sat in the back and had a tough time understanding the comic talking.

Great venue for big shows and smaller black box theaters. The bathrooms upstairs are a little creepy though!
