The Barnacle is a historic home built in 1891. It was home to Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Groves most influential pioneers. The home offers a glimpse of life, when all travel to and from Miami was by boat. Munroe sought to preserve the forest on his land, and cut out a small trail through the hammock, barely wide enough for one vehicle. Today, the property contains many large, old trees. The home is left in its natural state, and appears much as it did in Munroes days. The Barnacle is a great place to enjoy a picnic on the lawn, a tour through the hammocks, rocking in the chairs in the front porch, or a family night at one of their shows. Watch the sailboats go by and take a picnic basket. This site is definitely for the history buffs and peace and quiet seekers. I come here with my boyfriend and roam around. It is very peaceful. We take a blanket with some food and some wine and just chill while taking photos of the historic home. Cute getaway.

I wouldnt drive too far out of my way to visit here, dont expect too much. if you happen to be in the area its a nice little shady retreat to learn a bit about some south Miami history and boat building... The neighborhood is safe, trendy and upscale. The price to enter is a suggested $2.00 per person, (your meter on the street might cost you more).

The barnacle Park is part of the Miami tourist and cultural route. 19 century home of Middleton Monroe one of Coconut Grovemost influential residents. This is one of the oldest houses in Miami Dade. Stilling its original location. Peaceful, beautiful view and botanical garden.

A wonderful natural getaway in the heart of Coconut Grove. A large slipping lawn is perfect for picnics, or just lounging. Theres no beach here, but you can sit and watch boat traffic if thats your thing.

An oasis of peaceful nature hidden amidst the busy pace of the Grove. I take the girl I nanny there frequently to look at the water and run around. Small, but pleasant.

Very interesting history, some of which is being kept alive in the boathouse out back. Theyre still building boats by hand there.
