I have been coming to this bar for metal shows for the past 2 years and so I may have had enough experiences and visits here to formulate an opinion. Unfortunately a minor incident last night at. Marduk show has caused me to deduct a star. Last night one of the local bands were performing and the guitarist was asked to leave the venue after he was performing. I had been watching him before the show had even started and he had been causing no trouble whatsoever. It turned out to be that the new girl in the back office (dredlocks, named Liz?) had been in a relationship with the guitarist two years ago and decided to spitefully have him removed by claiming she was "uncomfortable around him." He never went near her the entire night that I saw and wasnt even trying to cause trouble whatsoever. And now as far as we understand one of the local members of San Diegos metal bands is effectively banned from the establishment because his ex doesnt know how to separate professionalism from personal feelings. There is no sense of accountability in case things get sour and nobody to put admin in check when they seem to be abusing their power. Pros: Beer variety, interesting shows and touring bands. Clean ish for a bar. Cons: Local Band love seems a bit sparse. New girl/ no apparent chain of command to hold all parties accountable.

Went all the way here from L.A. on may 14th for a bad ass show and got V.I.P. and it turns out there meet and greet was before the show and not after which got me upset and furious because I didnt get notified about this before the show. And I never heard of a V.I.P. meet and greet before a show its usually after which was strange! And a total rip off and I couldnt get a refund so yeah there went 74$ on nothing. But I have no disrespect to the bands that played they were bad ass. It was just a big let down that this venue doesnt give you your ticket when you come in and most venues are suppose to give you ticket when you enter in? And besides me disliking the venue the stage here was obstruced by the bar and the stage had bad lighting so it was hard to see the band!. And this place had pure liquor and no food wtf? So if you come here I suggest you EAT! Anyways ranting on about this venue so much I forgot how the staff was nice and so were the bartenders. But Ioverall Im completely dissatisfied about this place. And Im not sure Ill come down here again.

Brick by Brick is an awesome spot for anyone who loves heavy music. There are lots of decent bars and brew pubs to be found in this city but youll be hard pressed to find once that caters to Heavy Metal and while they could probably get away with just the music choice given how few options there are around San Diego, Brick by Brick is at its heart a solid dive bar with a great staff and drink choice. From what I understand you can order food from the nearby BBQ spot but Im usually not looking to go there to grab food but rather to drink and listen to some killer music. The bar itself is owned by some of the members of As I Lay Dying, which were a pretty popular metalcore act out of the area and though theyve since moved on to other projects, its cool that theyve kept Brick by Brick around. Overall I really dig this place, my only complaint is that it isnt closer but its always worth the trip for a good show and a few beers. If you love heavy music this is a place you need to visit on the regular. Stay metal, friends m/

I have been to this venue twice for burlesque shows around the time of comic con. This is by far the worst venue for a show that has any sort of stage action. The stage is so low, maybe 2-3ft off of the ground, that if you are short and not in front, you can forget about seeing anything. This year I wanted to wear my comic con costume that is kinda burlesque to fit the theme as a lot of girls had done the previous year. The venue was excruciatingly hot and I decided to avoid feeling faint, it was better to swap my costume for a t-shirt, but oops theres a no re-entry policy, so no taking stuff back to the car, which the bouncer rudely pointed out! So hey while we are at it, lets just add rudeness to the equation. To sum it up: cant see, too hot, too crowded, rude people ... Not woth seeing a show here, even after giving it a second try.

Cool place to see local bands play, and chill with your friends. Ive played the venue 2-3 times in the past as a guitarist, and hope to play it again as the frontman in a new band. The last time I was there, the club had a nice sound, which is partially due to the equipment, the sound man, and the band. I remember my guitar rig sounding even better that it did in the practice studio. The only problem for the young ones, its a 21, and up venue. Of course youll always have all ages venues, but Im not reviewing one of them, Im reviewing Brick By Brick.

Its a hardcore venue- no frills, super loud (they sell disposable ear plugs for $1), plenty of room for rocking your face off. Drinks are good, decent beer selection, good bartenders and staff. I usually skip the draft beer there because the ones Ive had previously tasted a little off. The lady luck cocktail is delicious. Ladies restroom is decent, but theres only two stalls. Venue is pretty ADA friendly. The neighborhood is pretty commercial/industrial so everything around there shuts down pretty early.

i like that it is small and intimate. the building is dilapidated. Security could do a better job dealing with drunks. the last show i was at erupted in a near brawl when drunks started banging into bodies (moshing?). security was there but not stopping the drunks... just stopping the brawl they caused. i go to shows to hear the bands. the moshing thing is out of control and people who dont want to be involved have no choice about it. kinda ruins the fun.

If youre into Heavy Metal, this place is heaven! Great live bands, powerful sound, beautiful lighting, inexpensive beer and hundreds of metalheads with long hair! What can be better than that? :) In addition to amazing atmosphere, everything is clean and well decorated. Its bigger than I expected. Their show schedule is available on their website. Im so glad I discovered Brick by Brick and I cant wait to come back at least 100 times!

Its so weird that it cant be lame... from the stuffed animals to the hidden little grotto to the cafeteria in the basement; I kinda love this place. Its an CA icon and just a bizarre mix of retro and trendy that it cant be a boring night. The waiters are typically friendly and cool. Music is different all the time and cocktails are good. I suggest going on a themed night.... Awesome.

Had a great experience at Metal Monday. Chill vibe, met Jordan and Nick of Wovenwar, who were very hospitable. Freebies (signed posters, a cd, etc.). Excellent selection of metal tunes being spun by the DJ (Mondays they dont have bands). Everyone very friendly and laid back. Seems like a great place to hang if youre into metal. Ill be back.
