The Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center is a very modern, nicely appointed collection of theaters. It contains three: the Francesca Beale Theater (142 seats), Howard Gilman (85 seats) and the Amphitheater (75 seats). Ive attended countless Q&As with directors like Brian De Palma, Jon Favreau, and Nicolas Winding Refn in the Amphitheater. It says it seats 75 people, but since its bench seating that can vary a lot. It becomes problematic when people get a little too comfortable with their purses. Thats what laps are for people. The risers are high to accommodate the back padding of the bench, so not even the tallest giant will obstruct your view. But the bottom padding is quite thin. The Q&As arent all that long so its bearable. I would suggest getting their an hour early at the very least for popular talks because seating is so limited.

I dont like the way this theater does business (they have a very strict policy re: refunds and exchanges: there are none), and I found the manager to be rude and uncooperative. Also, I was told by the woman at the box office that I could exchange a ticket that I had unnecessarily purchased at the box office and then when I tried to exchange it I was told that I could not exchange that ticket. This miscommunication was obviously frustrating; it gave me the impression that the theater bends the rule for some people, but not for everyone.

Beautiful theatre, great programming and the wine bar by the embrace is a gem. Ive been to a few screenings recently and a far more pleasant experience than going to basic movie theater. Films offered in a broad range of topics and wonderfully entertaining.

The most comfortable theaters in town. The new releases are well curated, and their festivals are even better. And as others have mentioned, the concessions are excellent. Overall, an under-appreciated gem of the Upper West Side.

Always a great place to catch a good independent or foreign film. Theatres are small but not claustrophobic.

Loved it. If you are into art house movies you have to watch something during your visit to NYC.
