Our Lady was built after the 1950 flood as a gift for saving Portage from a severe flood. There are stations along the walkway that tells the history of the area. The shrine is in the river, but over the years the river has made new land around the walkway. Its a lovely short walk, beautiful views up and down the Mississippi River. The road across the river is the Great River Road and it takes you past Elsah and upriver is Grafton.
