My wife and I went to Hot Tamale yesterday for the first time. It was a Saturday night and though it was busy there were still open tables, however we felt very rushed by our server. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and our server wanted to take our dinner orders but I asked her to wait, so she did about three minutes and then we gave her the orders but asked if she could wait to put them in so we could have a few minutes to have drinks and enjoy our apps, but only five minutes after our apps arrived so did our dinners. My wife ordered Seafood Enchiladas which she did not like and I ordered Fish Tacos which were listed as batter dipped with shredded cabbage, however they came pan seared and with iceberg lettuce and very bland. We were sitting by the kitchen and the Manager kept walking by so I mentioned this to him and he didnt even know his menu!! Also he acted as though I was nit-picking. Over all very disappointed, The food other than being very salty was bland, the menu was wrong, and the service was interested in moving people through rather than making your dinner enjoyable.
If I could give it a 0 star I would, worse customer service. I order take out and they told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I get there 30 minutes later, the bar tender Diane, was very rude! It took our food 45 minutes to be ready, when I asked Diane of how much longer we would have to wait, her response was " I dont know you have to wait for the other lady" her tone was very rude and I let her know that I felt disrespected by the way she responded. She proceeded to look at me, smirk and walk away from me. Finally got my food and left, and two items that I ordered and was charged for, was missing. To make matters worse, i called requesting to speak to the manager, and Diane answers the phone telling me she is the one to be in charged. Again, terrible customer service over the phone, even after the fault.
Quite possibly, the worst Mexican food on the planet. The salsa was bland. The refried beans weren’t beans but merely a paste of what used to be beans. The rice was hard and undercooked. Steak tacos consisted of pre-cooked beef, tough and overdone, chopped onions and cilantro. No lettuce, cheese, tomato or seasoning of any kind. Even at home you’d put on the Old El Paso taco mix and be way ahead of these tasteless offerings. The cheese enchiladas were of the frozen-packaged variety and topped with buffalo wing sauce. The most appetizing item on the table was the fly that kept landing on our plates. The server spent the majority of her time with her butt parked in a booth, chatting with her girlfriend. Thirty bucks down the tubes. Better off going to Taco Bell.
I dont trust these bartenders. I have seen people here getting very very drunk to where there is no way they should be drinking more or driving. No these people should not drink this much, but as a bartender or even a waiter should be more responsible and cut them off. If they are too far gone I would have hoped that they would call a taxi or something. I have seen them let people leave completely wasted. They are aiding in an illegal action. Driving over the limit is illegal and deadly, and hot tamale just lets them get as drunk as they want and lets them leave driving in their cards. Very unimpressed.
We had a great birthday party for my wife and friends. The staff treated us great and the Margaritas (which are a bit different because of there own sour mix) were excellent. We caught the end of the 1/2 price Margarita happy hour as well. The soft tacos were excellent as they were made with corn tortillas with only cilantro and onions. The crew enjoyed an item called a poblano popper with chicken bacon and cheese topped with pico and sour cream. Paella and Rib eye outstanding. We visit Hot Tamale a couple times of month and its pretty consistent!
This is one of the only restaurants that has stayed open in that location and there is a reason. The food is good, prices are in line with the quality/quantity of food. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating. They have probably one of my favorite salsas that Ive tasted as compared to other Mexican restaurants. For the true authentic Mexican food lover I would say this is more tex-mex. So just keep that in mind. The have entertainment usually on the weekends and the place transforms into a little hotspot at night.
I picked up my order and got all the way home to find they did not include part of the order. It was too far to drive back. Then the food I had was subpar. The rice was mixed with fresh and hard rice. I used to love this place but clearly they are falling off. Smh the 2 stars were for presentation. Aside from my burrito bowl missing the burrito bowl, the food looked appetizing. It just didnt taste fresh. The entire experience was disappointing. I think Ill pass on visiting them in the future.
I ordered my food over the phone they said be ready in 15-20 minutes. I get there 45 minutes later and its not done. Mike the bartender was awesome, found out what happened with the computer that my order didnt get to the kitchen and gave me a drink on the house for the hassle. This place is lucky the food is so good and they have such great employees! Thanks Mike.
Ive gone here 10-20 times over the past few years, and I think this place is all right. Theres nothing to be excited about with the food or service, but its not a bad place to stop by for variety. I do think the prices are much higher than they should be, and I wish I could sit in the restaurant area during lunch, but I plan on going here again in the future.
We needed a minute to decide to order after ordering drinks-our server did not address us for another twenty minutes!!! I tried to get her attention-she was too busy talking to other waitstaff-the place was empty! We ordered our entrees for the price, horrible size and horrible quality, we would have been better off going to taco bell, NO joke!
Had a work function and needed meals for 50 people in 90 minutes, these guys pulled it together and had it delivered right on time. Everyone just loved the food, the salsa was great and the guacamole was exceptionally fresh. Many of the local people have since added Hot Tamale to their list of go-to places in the area!
Prime/convenient location. The staff are friendly, but there never seem to be enough of them. The prices arent high, but theyre high enough that theres an expectation of really good food -- and its just okay. Dont get me wrong, its not a bad place at all -- but its "just okay" -- and that is tough to recommend.

Salsa would be better if you get it from the jar, margaritas are horrible in a way that is just a shame. Beans rice, taste like they straight out of the can. Waitress are very nice but unfortunally that doesnt fill my stomac. They really need to do some research on what real mexican food is all about.
